Monday

Looking at the calendar, I have a Flash MX mini-class this morning, a meeting with the Spoken Word folks, and sometime in the day I need to talk to the big boss about bring blogs to Northwestern. Somewhere after all that, I need to drag myself to the YMCA and do the lifting that I am currently not doing. Continue...

24,000 lbs.

The hardest part of the day is over. I just got back from my best lifting session yet, having lifted 24,000 pounds of iron. According to the comparison graphs, this has been the maximum amount per day lifted yet. It has placed my fitness score above three different age brackets' score for the month of May. Continue...

It looks like I pulled a Time: Canada yesterday. The Oyez link I posted on this blog and the Oyez website. was caught by some astute Oyez fan and posted the link to Slashdot. This was unexpected and premature, to say the least. Continue...

Gitmo Prisoners Becoming Westernized

Those poor Taliban who are being held in Cuba appear to be adopting some of the Western world's most endearing traits -- complaining. Apparently their confinement in Cuba is overwhelming them with fear and uncertainty. Via the New York Times. Continue...

Bio -> Factoids

I received a request from the Creative Commons folks today requesting a bio to link to for the publicity campaign behind the Oyez MP3 releases and Creative Common's new audio licensing tools. Rather than subject everyone to yet another third-person narrative, here are a few quick factoids. Continue...

Rebates

I received my Tivo rebate this week. Woohoo! However, according to this Slate story, the rebate game has become less of a way for manufacturers to pass lower prices to consumers, and more of a game for stores to con the public in order to maximize their profits while giving the appearance of lower prices.

Tivo / Enterprise / Blogging

I'm in the process of watching the latest Enterprise my Tivo recorded. It's a rerun, but since I've only started watching recently, it's new to me. This is a good take on "Enterprise" with respect to the other Star Trek series. Personally, I love the show and it's my favorite Trek series, beating out "Next Generation" by quite a bit.

Public Domain Petition

A group of people have gotten together and started a petition for the Public Domain Enhancement Act that would allow works that are no longer commercially viable or the creator doesn't care about to automatically enter the public domain. The way it works is that a normal copyright is granted for fifty years. After fifty years, a copyright holder is required to register the copyright and pay a small fee ($1.00 is proposed) to keep the copyright active. If the copyright holder does not care enough to register and pay the nominal fee, the work slips into the public domain. Personally, I think this is a great idea. If you think the same, sign the petition.

Amazon Referrer Link

As part of my gradual site redesign, I have placed an Amazon referrer link on the left side of the page. If you feel like helping me out, before you shop at Amazon, click that link (which will take you to Amazon) and I'll earn a commission on whatever you purchase there. I figure that it's better than a tip-jar.
