Rose Red
I went to Holly's last night and we watched the made-for-TV series "Rose Red". I liked the two-thirds that I saw, and am eagerly awaiting to see the end tonight after dinner. Continue...Back
I'm back from Cedar Rapids. It was a nice big little town and Holly's folks were great. Continue...Day Concentrate
Today is becoming one of the longer days in recent memory. I'm currently in a meeting discussing The Next Big Project, after having had breakfast with Jerry Goldman and Larry Lessig to discuss the release of Oyez audio materials. Continue...Server Heart Monitor
Today has been mostly a "wait and observe" day with respect to Oyez. I tweaked the site a bit yesterday to make it faster and more efficient and I'm in the process of verifying my hypothesis. Thus far, things look good. Continue...Dammit all to hell!
I was just writing a piece on the RIAA v. Peng suit, but managed to hit the wrong button and close the tab that I had the piece open in. Ergh! Anyways, the gist of the piece was that Peng is screwed and will lose, the RIAA will not get the ninety-seven billion dollars it is suing for, and there is no good reason for the RIAA to bring this suit other than sheer vindictiveness. This is the dark side of tabbed browsing (the lost piece, not the RIAA).Close Encounters of the Third Kind
I finally got around to watching that copy of Close Encounters of the Third Kind that had been living on my Tivo for about a week. I don't know what it is about extraterrestrials in the movies, but aliens always give me the creeps. Continue...Drat. Hacked!
The site and my e-mail was offline the past few days because I found that I was hacked yesterday. :-P Continue...Good Kills
To get to Baghdad, the marines of the Third Battalion fought the old-fashioned way - by shooting as many of the enemy as they could. Peter Maass reports from Iraq. Continue...It's Alive
Today, Oyez went live. Today, I learned what traffic really is. Continue...Lesser Evil
Well, rather than create havok and redesign this site graphically, I'll occupy myself before bed by posting my wishlist for the next software update of the Tivo. Continue...Head... gonna... explode...
Ever have one of those days where your work mail server decides to commit hari-kari? It's 3:15 and I still have yet to accomplish what I originally intended to do today. Le sigh. Continue...Ah Ha!
I managed to access all the Oyez audio on my television! For those with Tivos with the Home Media Option, test this out by subscribing to 129.105.110.177. Awesome. The entire oral history of the Supreme Court accessible with a few clicks on a remote.Entry 87
According to MovableType, this is entry 87. Read on for recent updates, TiVo reactions, and whatever else I feel the need to write about. Continue...Sheesh, NO Self Control
Well, as expected I went out and purchased a Tivo Series2 80 Hour DVR in order to get the new features of the Home Media Option that was supposed to come live yesterday. Who didn't see that coming? Continue...Officially Obselete
I read about Tivo's new Home Media Option via Slashdot. My video project is officially obselete. Barring circumstances beyond my control, I may not be unable to resist purchasing one of these things tonight. Man, I wish I had free will.Snowed Out
I was supposed to see the Cubs' opening game at Wrigley Field, but due to a flash snowstorm, the game has been put off until tomorrow. Details on the weekend, RTSP, and "Acts of the Apostles". Continue...Quicktime Streaming
Newest part of my video project -- Real Time Streaming Protocol serving of video. Will it actually work? Continue...CNN and Audio
We managed to (somewhat) capture the audio from the Grutter and Gratz cases. We even managed to get the stuff featured on CNN. Screen captures are available for those interested. We also managed to get MP3's off to FindLaw. Though we're not finished (we need transcripts), we have some pretty good results thus far. Gratz v. Bollinger link, Grutter v. Bollinger link Continue...Multimedia Online
I've posted scans of Cable covers in a fashion similar to the Uncanny X-Men scans I placed online some time ago. I have also been playing around with iMovie again and have an early rough draft of a piece that I'm creating. And if that were not enough, I'll be working on putting the Gratz v. Bollinger and Grutter v. Bollinger arguments online (check under "Resources" when the link appears) at Oyez. Phew! Continue...
