Zeno's Paradox
December 03, 2003 - CRS Brief on Wildfire Protection

I've posted a Congressional Research Service issue brief on wildfire protection and the "Healthy Forests Initiative". It's a pretty evenhanded document on the issue. I'm still reading and digesting it, but feel free to download it now.

This document was provided to me by a helpful staffer in Congressman Mike Honda's office.

There is, I do not exaggerate, no institution on this planet for which I have more respect than the CRS. CRS reports re environmental shit are also available at http://www.cnie.org. It's such a tragedy the place hasn't distributed their stuff online yet. (Hey--maybe after Oyez?) Back in my day (hardy har har) you had to walk to the Madison Building and pick up the yellow issue briefs etc. that were all lined neatly up on shelves. The mother of a girl I interned with supposedly invented the idea of issue briefs, or whatever they are--those little yellow packets. I think that warrants a prize of some sort.

The reports are supposed to be even-handed and the people writing them usually have multiple PhDs. They are woefully underpaid too.

Chris, seriously, getting these things online would be awesome, but there's probably no money in it.

p.s. a more direct url to the briefs available online (through cnie) is http://www.ncseonline.org/NLE/CRS/
