Zeno's Paradox
July 22, 2003 - Whoops, I Did It Again

I left work early today to get some jetlag rest and talk to a bank rep about whether it would make sense for me to get a loan for the PowerMac G4 purchase, of if I should use my existing line of credit. The loan didn't make much sense given my other options, so I ended up purchasing the PowerMac tonight. Luckily, this purchase will be partially financed by the sale of my 15" PowerBook and its accessories.

So here are the stats of the system purchased:

- Apple Studio Display (17" flat panel)

- Final Cut Express Promotion Bundle

- Power Mac G4: 1.25GHz w/ 1MB L3 Cache, 256MB DDR333 SDRAM, 80GB Ultra ATA drive, Apple SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW), ATI Radeon 9000 Pro dual-display w/64MB DDR, AirPort Card

I intentionally skimped on the memory and hard disks as I'll purchase the RAM and disks from elsewhere for cheaper. I imagine that I'll see the system here next week sometime. Now, I need to purchase a TiBook paint touchup kit to get the PowerBook ready for its new owner.

Bedtime...

Ha. Once I fouund that a bank loan would not do enough for me considering the price / gain ratio, I had no excuse to not get it. It didn't help my resistance that Holly is very interested in getting my TiBook ASAP. As Jerry Goldman would have said, she was my "enabler" by telling me to push that "Check Out" button...

since holly's getting the powerbook, can i have your old windows laptop that functions as a glorified chequebook/paperweight, oh please oh please oh please? it and i go way back and have a lot of fond memories of theses, papers, and email-checking past. and your birthday well-wishes have started to wear thin as the weeks churn by. the laptop would make an excellent memento :-) or alimony, as it were...

and (ignore sarcastic tone of voice and replace with a curious wonderment) whatever made you think that a bank loan would be helpful? for a mortgage for a house or a new business loan, sure, but in the grand scheme of things, a 2k computer is small change. we're not in the days of low-low-interest pton loans anymore (ie. we've been booted from kansas). just make sure to stay on top of your credit interest payments so you're not paying interest on interest and you should back in black within a few months if you play your cards right and cut back on videogame/media consumption or whatever it is that floats your boat nowadays. :-)

or you could return the new comp and plead jetlag-induced insanity. you could always buy a nice $500 windows box. muhahahah
