Zeno's Paradox
January 04, 2003 - The Fine Art of Putting One's Mind Back Into One's Head

Welcome to yet another installment. In this episode, Batman (Adam West) will attempt to thwart the Joker's nefarious plan to replace the world's canned tuna with canned dolphin. POW! BANG! ZING! Don't change that Bat-Channel!

As the introduction implies, yes I am a bit goofy at the moment. I'm about ready to hit the sack, but I'm waiting for an experiment to finish up. I'm helping a coworker figure out how to put Audible.com files on a Windows iPod. The Mac iPod is pretty straightforward -- copy to iTunes and sync. Under Windows, things are apparently not as clear. My current strategy is to download the files into Audible Manager and burn the book to CD-R. When the disc is burnt, rip the disc via MusicMatch and sync those files with the Windows iPod. I'm currently burning disc one of two of "I Rant, Therefore I Am" by Dennis Miller.

In other news, I'm at my own place at the moment. I went to Holly's last night to see "Adaptation" at the theater. It was a nice meta-self-referential movie that kept me interesting. I enjoyed it, but was disappointed to not find out that Charlie had been writing Donald as a separate manifestation of his fractured psyche (overused phrase alert!) a la "Fight Club". Anyways, I enjoyed it. I ended up spending the night and this morning, we went out while some of her visiting friends were shopping to look at some of the local Chicago churches. I'm not a religious person by any means, but I do appreciate a beautiful church. I took some photos of the exteriors, but held off on the photos on the inside, as I don't know if it would be proper to take photos like that. I need to do a bit of research to find out the proper protocol of such things. We also took a look at a mansion downtown that had been built in the mid-1800's by a Chicago financier and converted later into an art gallery. I was looking at the house more than the art and had a good time. Photos of the exteriors may be coming soon.

I came back after dinner with Holly and friends so that I would have all of tomorrow to get my act organized. I've not had a day to myself since before Christmas and I have lots of things to think about and plan for. I'll be getting glasses again, so I need to arrange that. I have to plan for classes later on and build a grocery list. There are many other things to do, but I'll spare the tedium of writing them all. Oyez was supposed to go beta this weekend, but since I've heard nothing from Jerry, I'm assuming that he's putting it off again. I'll post a link to the site once it's live so people can see what I've been working on.

While at the theater last night, I had an interesting thought. I wonder if by the time I retire if a significant amount of content will have fallen out of copyright. I wonder is because I was toying with the idea of later buying a small movie theater and showing public domain films. The films would be ones fallen out of copyright and the theater would operate by providing a good movie experience and not by showing the latest blockbusters. I figure that the idea may have a good deal of potential because of the stuff I read about theaters now suggest that it's hard running a theater because the studios demand such a huge percentage of the ticket sales. (Ever wonder why candy was so expensive at a theater? It's one of their few profit areas left.) I figured that I would be out of doing real work by 2035, so depending upon how Eldred is decided, my choice of films may be great or very small. Still I like the idea.

Back to burning and then bed. (Roxio is so obnoxious with the UPGRADE NOW messages. Ergh.)
