Zeno's Paradox
November 21, 2002 - Blogging for Jesus

"Blogging for Jesus" is just a phrase that is fun to say for whatever reason. If you're here looking for my most recent inspiration, I'm sorry to disappoint. I was actually wondering how many would click the link based solely upon the title. Yup, you've been recorded reading this. You and everyone else in the past day have their dirty deeds recorded here. (Not for the faint of heart.) After the day, you'll become a simple statistic in my other visitor logs.

In other news, I cannot believe how fast this week has gone. I have either been really busy or I've been losing moments and should get my head checked. I went to work at 9:00'ish and left somewhere in the ballpark of 5:30. I pretty much worked on Oyez all day, cleaning up some things, updating the server to a saner configuration, and trying to make sure that everything works for the beta. It's coming along, and tomorrow, I hope to move everything out of /usr/local into a more standard setup that actually uses Debian packages for this stuff. We'll see how well this works with Cocoon and Tomcat -- chances are that it will blow up in my face.

When I was not hacking on the SCOTUS website, I was checking E*Trade to see if today was the magic day. The magic day is when the value of my stocks doubled since purchase. This is not such a big deal, as I currently have only one stock and cash in my brokerage account, but today GSOF surpassed $27.50, thus triggering the magic day. You see, I purchased my shares at $13.74 in early September and the past two months have been a rollercoaster ride. After the record earnings report -- an anomaly as all the other techs seem to still be spouting blood -- the stock has been on its way up. They're also having a 2-for-1 stock split where I should receive my new shares by Dec. 2. My growth rate will be insane for this month.

After work, I treated myself to an early birthday present. I stopped by Electronics Boutique and took a look at the games. I ended up getting "Metroid Fusion" for the GameBoy Advance, "Final Fantasy Tactics" for the PS/One with a strange game called "Sheep" for the PS/One (the idea is to herd sheep -- really), and American McGee's "Alice" for the PC. All of the games have been fun in the short amount of time that I've been playing them and I should get lots of enjoyment out of the bunch. An interesting sidenote -- while at the store, I picked up a copy of Nintendo's marketing materials -- a free book and a DVD with previews. I was struck while looking through the book how Nintendo was squarely targeting the "hip young adult" crowd in their materials. I've not watched the DVD yet, but I suspect that it'll be the same. It looks like Mario is taking a run at the PlayStation's bread and butter.

After getting home from work, I cooked some spaghetti and watched two hours of "Law and Order". Since I received the entire first season last week, I've watched four episodes. I really enjoy the show and it honestly puts on an entertaining and intelligent show. So, four down -- eighteen to go. :-)

Well, I'm probably off to bed real soon. I was up until 3:00 AM last night finishing the monster known as "Final Fantasy VIII". I made it through the castle and kicked Ultimecia and her pet's magic little butts. I was surprised about how long the ending clip was -- it was really surreal watching it while being half-awake. So, since I finished that game, I had another reason to go out and pick up some more. I was tempted to pick up the original "Parasite Eve" and its sequel (I've not beat the Chrysler building in "Eve" yet), but I figured that I'd best stay away from RPG's for the moment and try something else for a bit. I've been on the lookout for any variant of Bust-A-Move, but none are to be found. Just a note, but if someone creates a broadband-capable version of Bust-A-Move that works with a third generation console (or all of them) and can be played over the Internet -- I would be in heaven. I love that game and miss the crazy freshman-year network games.

BTW -- welcome to the wireless age. This is also my first 802.11b-enabled blog entry. Coming to you from a chair in my living room and brought to you by the fine folks at Linksys and Apple.

Good night.
