Zeno's Paradox
November 07, 2002 - Wow, I have a few minutes of free time...

In this entry, the author writes about random things to fill the time and to generate content that spiders like.

So, I'm working on a new project Oyez Oyez Oyez, which is a website focusing on the Supreme Court. There's lots of interesting content such as cases and justices and even QuickTime VR tours of some of the Justices' chambers.

My current job is to kick the tires of the new version of the site (the one linked above is version three, I'm testing version four), and make sure that it's somewhat usable for beta testers before swapping out version three with version four. As those who know me well are already aware, I'm a big fan of constitutional law, so helping out with a website on the Supreme Court is very interesting for me. While my role is largely just testing at the moment, the big boss has informed me that I can become the AT pointman on this project if I want. Which I would like -- this is a fairly high profile site (over 1,000,000 visitors a month) and some of the peripheral knowledge and networking gained through association with this project may be very valuable later on. I've already come up with a few ideas for version five such as implementing a pure Java object oriented architecture with a plugin capability for importing external data sources. But anyways, that's work. I managed to get most of the videoconferencing documentation written, and for those poor souls who are actually interested, it's accessible here.

Not too much is going on in my personal life at the moment. I managed to pick up a pair of running shoes yesterday and I'm planning on starting running again and trying to train for some races starting this weekend (training, not races). I figure that if I can get into the racing habit, running will be much easier to stick to. My problem over the past few years is that I'm a terrible athlete if I don't have something to be training for. No races - no training. I'll be sure to update how that goes for my astute readers. (Which is mostly Google's spider at the moment. *shrug*)

I've also been hanging out with the gal I was pining over a few entries ago. I'll not mention her name because I think that she would be embarrassed and turn red seeing her name in (web) print, but I'll take the liberty for the sake of completeness to say that she's really great and I have had many good times with her and I'm looking forward to more. I'd better zip it now, because she might read this and get irked at me. See what dangers I brave to put these entries online? I hope that whoever is reading this appreciates it as I may get a good sock in the punch for leaking such vital information. Of course, consumers of robot.txt files care not for the generators of such content, only the content itself...

Still link checking... I fixed a few problems and now the 404s are much less frequent. However a recursive check a hundred levels down may take a while...

So to kill more time, I will write about "Final Fantasy VIII". It's been an enjoyable game, but I liked the twists in FFVII better. However, I will say that the Squall/Seifer/Odin/Gilgamesh scene was pretty cool. While I'm not as big on the Squall/Seifer conflict as I was big on the Cloud/Sephiroth one, this one scene was pretty cool. I was impressed that Seifer could cleave Odin in half, but was thinking, "now you're gonna get you ass handed to you" once the Gilgamesh character came around. I managed to save on disc three, so I might go back to finish the side quests. Or I might just call it a day and finish it up and forget about it.

I was at Blockbuster looking at the PlayStation 2 games and I wasn't too impressed by any of the major consoles' offerings. I thought that I might purchase a PS2 one of these days, but right now I don't feel the desire. I would like to play Final Fantasy X one of these days, but it's not an immediate and pressing desire. I guess I'm just getting old. :-P

Alright, more broken links to fix...
