"I do not think for a moment that the church should
aspire to become irrelevant. There is always a need
for Christians to speak the gospel into their own
context. Rather, my concern is with the ever present
danger of over-contextualizing. Consider what happens
to a church that is always trying to appeal to an
increasingly post-Christian culture.

I've also heard dressing up on Sundays described as
wearing your "Sunday-go-to-meetin'" clothes. So, does
it matter what we wear when we assemble for worship?
Talk about a potentially incendiary question! But it
need not be. One of the things I love about our
fellowship at Christ's Church is the freedom to be
who we are in Christ without the need to pass
judgment on those who are different.

You guys are amazing! I'm still
speechless!
(I'm referring to all my brothers and sisters at
Christ Church whom I love and appreciate more than
they will ever know.) How many pastors have the
distinction of being honored with a gun on pastor
appreciation day? I mean, how unbelievably cool is
that? (Either that, or we will eventually be included
in a future Jeff Foxworthy, "You know you're a
redneck..." routine.)

One of the things that I treasure most about our
church family is the authentic expression of love and
unity within our fellowship. You guys genuinely walk
out Peter's command to "love one another deeply, from
the heart" (I Peter 1:22). I'm not suggesting that
we're a perfect church (
there are none on this side of
eternity), but I do see the fingerprints of
the Holy Spirit all over the place, and I am so
thankful for that!

We pulled a fast one yesterday. Pete Rigney turned 80
so we surprised him with a pitch-in meal after the
service where he was the guest of honor (surprise!!).
We weren't sure how we were going to get him down to
the gym for the dinner without giving away the
surprise, so the pastor had to concoct a big yarn. .
. but enough about that.
