Formed in 1988, the Friends defended the Walk against threats from transport studies and made many aware of its delights. After a period of dormancy, the Walk needs its Friends again, to ensure its value as a nature reserve and wildlife haven for biodiversity in the City is kept in balance with other demands as a recreational asset, well loved open space for relaxation and sport and sustainable transport route to schools and work. Friends include those with interests in its flora and fauna as well as its other functions. It needs to be kept clean and safe and managed to minimise anti-social behaviour. Most of all we want to correct years of under-investment in the Walk and help in practical ways with improving its management and championing its assets. |
| Initially the Friends will monitor proposals by consultants proposing changes to the surface and access to achieve the 'best fit' for all interests. It then proposed to sponsor summer walks and talks about the features of the walk and what can be found there. | |
A general meeting will be held each year to elect the Executive Committee and decide priorities. It will use its fund rasing capabilities to attract grant and sponsorship (where appropriate) to assist in the physical and intellectual development of the Parkland Walk and its features. |
