Welcome to our website!

Julius Reuter, the founder of the Reuter news agency, lived in 18 Kensington Palace Gardens from 1868 to 1899, and it seems fitting to dedicate the Cherry Tree website to him. Our former neighbour would have been enormously excited by the internet, as he was a real "techie junkie" who loved communication technology. Not only did he pioneer the use of the telegraph for despatching news around the world, but according to legend he also was the first person in London to have a telephone.

We hope you will find this website useful, and with feedback and ideas from you we can make it even better. Just send an email!

So who did Julius phone, those first days or weeks? Probably just the lady at the telephone exchange... "Hello Rose, it's me again, testing to see if it works. Have you heard if anyone else is planning to buy one of these telephones soon?"

Note from the webmaster 10/03/2009: This site has been sorely neglected for several years, due to other commitments, but it is my intention to update it thoroughly during the next few weeks.
