How-to: Eject a W810i from a Mac OS X

I've got a new w810i . Like it. Well, love it, actually. It took a few days to adjust to the differences between that and the W800i which I had previously, but I'm cool with most everything now and actually like it more than the W800i.

One thing I didn't like was that I couldn't eject the W810i from my Mac like I could my W800i. Turns out that it's different, a little less Mac-friendly, but it's also possible.

When the W810i mounts on the Mac it registers both the internal memory (22MB) and the external Memory Stick (whatever you happen to have, 512MB is included).

When you open a window in the Finder both "pieces" of memory in the Sidebar. Look for two icons one on top of the other that share the same icon as a Disk Image.

Here's the issue: Like other external disks, hardrives, CDs, DVDs, etc, these two icons have an eject button to the right of the memory's name. Logically you'd think that clicking on these, one after the other, would eject the W10i memory in turn. That doesn't work.

The first icon will eject properly, but ejecting the second icon will result in an endless loop of "this disk is in use" errors.

So, the trick is to eject both W810i icons at once.

To eject both W810i icons from your Desktop select both icons (Apple+Click to select multiple, noncontiguous items) and either drag these to the trash together.

This also works in Finder windows in Icon View, and there are other ways to eject drives, as you know, but the trick is to eject both W810i icons at the same time.

Helpful? Let me know. Want an w810i ?
