Mac How To: monitor multiple boxes simultaneously in Mail.app

If you have your Junk mail filter trained but you still want to monitor it just in case something slips through, you can keep an eye on it and your Inbox at the same time.

To select noncontiguous boxes, you'll need to use your mouse and your keyboard. First select your Inbox (it should turn grey) and then with the  or command key down on your keyboard, click the Junk box.

This is what it should look like:

Of course, you can monitor as many boxes as you want with this method. If you have rules moving incoming messages around, this tip could be useful for you.

You might have noticed that I have a couple of Smart Mailboxes set up. The two in the snapshot are particularly handy.

I've set one up to collect all the messages I've flagged. This makes quick work of responding to messages I've deemed important.

I've also set up an Unread Smart Mailbox. This serves more or less the same purpose as selecting multiple boxes, but you can set it up not to include boxes like Trash or Junk.

By the way, the reason my Mail.app buttons might look different than yours is because I'm using Mail Stamps.
