Apple Airport Extreme base station and bundle deal

AEBS for $160, bundled with an Airport Card for $195

If you've got an Airport-ready Mac and you're not using it, now might be the time to take the 802.11 jump. Going wireless at home gives you mobility you don't enjoy when tethered by a wire. Arming your Mac with an Airport card also allows you to connect to other 802.11 WiFi networks when you're on the go.

Wegener Media has the Airport Extreme Basestation for $160. $40 off Apple's price (Apple Online Store), and it's the lowest price I've seen online. Note that It's the model without a 56k modem or external antenna port. This is the model I use at home, and is perfectly suitable if you just plan on sharing your cable or DSL connection.

Wegener is also offering a bundle. An AEBS and card for $195. I'd suggest contacting Wegener prior to ordering as the bundle is not itemized; it's a little unclear if the card included is in fact an Extreme Airport card. One would have to assume that it is, but the card's price in the bundle is just $35, half of the best refurbished price I've seen online, begs for clarification.

The common criticism of Apple's 802.11 base stations is their price in comparison to its competitor's prices. You can grab a comparable 802.11g base station from another maker for around $50-75. Why, then, choose Apple? Ease of set-up and Industrial Design. If either is important to you, you can't go wrong with an Apple Airport Basestations.
