In the area around where the Shumi Tribe live is the richest natural deposit of metals, minerals, gems, and rare stones in the world. This amazing discovery has made the Shumi Tribe very wealthy, but there are secrets that the Shumis have not shared with outsiders. Among the wealth that is located around their tribe, the Shumis have discovered several magical stones that can be shaped and used for their mystical properties. These stones are carefully hidden from all but a few visitors and the Shumis have decided that they will only be used in cases of emergency or when the magical properties of the stones are needed for another purpose. During his stay at the Shumi Tribe, Squall Leonhart helped a Shumi sculptor gather samples of each of the five magical stones for a statue of Laguna Loire, a close friend of the Shumi race.
All five magical stones that the Shumis have taken from the area around their underground village are magical in nature. Each stone has been given a name and its properties were fully explored soon after they were first discovered. In order to facilitate the use of the stones, the Shumis decided to fashion all stones into common shapes so that they could be more easily built, even in limited numbers. The stones are the Blue Stone, which is used to fashion weapons and is the most common, the Wind Stone, used for air elemental spells, the Life Stone, used for healing spells, the Shadow Stone, used for shadow and fear spells, and the Water Stone, used for water elemental spells.
The Blue Stone is very hard and can be sharpened to an incredible point or blade. Blue Stones are always shaped into weapons, usually swords or pole arms, the favorites of the Shumi Tribe, and the magical nature enhances the combat abilities of the wielder. The exact process of extracting the Blue Stone and shaping it into a usable weapon is a highly kept secret, but the stone's durability makes it a very sought after building material and there are many monuments throughout the Human nations that are built with Blue Stone.
Blue Stone can be shaped into any melee weapon, although swords and pole arms are favored by the Shumis. These weapons inflict more damage and have more durability, but their magical abilities increase the wielder's combat skills. The wielder can attack more often has an increased chance of each attack causing a critical strike, in addition to have increased bonuses to strike and parry.
As its name implies, the Wind Stone was the power over the air and the wind. Any one who wields the wind stone, shaped into a 6" (15.2 cm) long rod, can activate any of its powers and use its PPE base to cast its air elemental spells. All Wind Stone wands have the following air elemental spells: Create Mild Wind, Stop Wind, Change Wind Direction, Howling Wind, Fingers of the Wind, Wind Rush, Whirlwind, Whisper of the Wind, Hurricane, and Wind Blast. The wand has 100 PPE, which completely regenerates every 24 hours, to cast its spells, but this PPE cannot be used for anything else, although the wielder can use their own PPE to cast additional spells. Each spell cast by the wand counts as one melee action and all spells are used as if cast by a 5th level wizard.
The Life Stone was recently discovered in the area around the Shumi village and seems to only occur directly under the plants and vegetation that the Shumis planted around their village. The Life Stone is fashioned into a stone disk with a diameter of 12" (30.5 cm) and a thickness of 2" (5.1 cm) that weighs 10 lbs (4.5 kg). The Life Stone allows anyone that is touching it to cast the following spells: Negate Poison / Toxin, Cure Minor Disorders, Heal Wounds, Cure Illness, Restoration, and Resurrection. The disk has 100 PPE, which completely regenerates every 24 hours, to cast its spells, but this PPE cannot be used for anything else, although anyone touching the disk can use their own PPE to cast additional spells. Each spell cast by the disk counts as one melee action and all spells are used as if cast by a 5th level wizard.
The Shadow Stone is very rare and is fashioned into a small pendant that is worn around the neck. When worn, the pendant gives the wearer access to several shadow and darkness related spells. The Shadow Stone allows anyone wearing it to cast the following spells: Fear, Heavy Breathing, Shadow Meld, and Summon Shadow Beast. The pendant has 150 PPE, which completely regenerates every 24 hours, to cast its spells, but this PPE cannot be used for anything else, although anyone wearing the pendant can use their own PPE to cast additional spells. Each spell cast by the pendant counts as one melee action and all spells are used as if cast by a 5th level wizard.
Like the Wind Stone, the Water Stone is shaped into a wand and gives the wielder access to several water elemental spells. The Water Stone wand is slightly longer then the Wind Stone wand, but it is lighter. The Water Stone wand allows the wielder to cast the following water elemental spells: Dowsing, Foul Water, Calm Waters (3rd level spell), Create Water, Swim Like the Dolphin, Whirlpool, Part Waters, and Tidal Wave.
