Galbadia Garden is located near the capitol of the Galbadia Empire; a city called Deling, and is closely related to the Galbadia Government and its military operations. A large number of elite soldiers are given special training at the Galbadia Garden.
Since it was established as the second Garden, the Galbadia Garden has grown closer to the Galbadia Military and through this relationship it has strengthened its area of specialization, namely magical items. Galbadia Garden specializes in the creation, manipulation, and use of magical items. All world governments and the other Gardens seek out these magic items because of their power and effectiveness. Most often, Galbadia Garden mercenaries are hired more for their equipment than for the actual operatives.
Associated with their use of magical items, Galbadia Garden offers the most physically intensive training programs of all three Gardens. Which is another reason for its success, since many militaries do not place as much trust in guardian forces or super powers compared to magic and physical strength.
Similar to Balamb Garden, the Galbadia Garden is built on an ancient shelter that has been modernized at great expense. Seeing how Balamb Garden was able to decrease their costs considerably by using the old structure, Galbadia Garden, and later Trabia Garden, chose to build on the same foundation. The original shelter was a well-defended M.D.C. bunker built by an ancient civilization that abandoned it long ago. Since then, the bunker has been reinforced and the inside has been completely replaced with a new layout.
Norg chose the master of the Galbadia Garden, a man named Martine. Norg donated about 60% of the funds needed to build the Garden, and this allowed him to choose one of his most loyal associates to be the master. Martine is also the headmaster of the facility, this troubled members of the faculty because they knew that Norg had never been involved in the operation of Balamb Garden and they did not expect him to choose the person necessary for the job. Fearing a pitiful lackey that was completely loyal to Norg, the faculty was surprised to find that Martine was very competent and worked hard to ensure the Garden’s survival. During his time as Headmaster, Martine developed new areas of study for magical items and created several new items that are now used by nearly all graduating students. For example, Martine developed the original Gunblade that is currently used by several Garden mercenaries and students, and one SeeD operative.
When the Sorceress joined forces with the Galbadia Republic, Martine used SeeD operatives to conduct the assassination of Sorceress Edea. That way, in case they failed, the Sorceress would blame Balamb Garden instead of Galbadia Garden. Norg, the master of Balamb Garden was furious when he learned what Martine had done, since the original idea for the assassination had been Martine’s. Unfortunately for Martine, Sorceress Edea still attacked Galbadia Garden with Seifer and the Galbadia Military. Martine was forced to leave the Garden along with many of his students, but a large number of his most elite students stayed with the Garden and joined Sorceress Edea. Using Galbadia Garden as his base, Seifer proceeded to scour the world for Ellone, the girl that Sorceress Edea wanted captured. This involved using Galbadia Garden to invade the city of Balamb and to ambush Balamb Garden on the Centra continent.
Following the end of the threat of Time Compression, Martine returned to the site of Galbadia Garden and used his connections in the Galbadia Military to begin construction on a new facility. Although it will be years before the new Galbadia Garden is the size it was prior to the War of the Gardens, it continued to have strong support from the Galbadia Republic under its new president, General Carroway.
