Progenitor RCC
(Version 1.00 - Last Modified: 02/18/2006)
The Progenitors are a mysterious race that arrived on Chrion in early 103 AL in two ships. Each ship
was controlled by one of the two main Progenitor factions that have dominated Progenitor politics for
the last several decades: the Manifold Caretakers and the Manifold Usurpers. Unfortunately for the
arriving Progenitors, the two ships arrived in orbit of Chiron at nearly the same time and the
subsequent battle left both ships heavily damaged, forcing them to crash on Chiron. In the 60 years
since then, the Progenitors have expanded from their original crash sites and have claimed large
sections of the planet as their territory. The Progenitors have also secured their borders and
created an impressive industrial base in a short span of time, easily surpassing most of the Human
factions individually.
The Progenitors are an advanced civilization from the Ursa Prime star system, which they refer to
as the Core System. The Progenitors are advanced enough to have developed faster-than-light
spaceflight and communication, which is far beyond what Earth was capable of when the colonists
were originally launched. The Progenitors' civilization has been in existence of tens of thousands
of years, but a long series of civil wars have prevented the Progenitors from expanding from the
small number of star systems they have claimed for millenia. The most recent civil war to wrack
the Progenitors began as the Succession Wars to determine who could claim the throne after the
death of the last Progenitor leader, but even as that war was being settled, a new conflict arose
around the six powerful Manifold planets. One group of Progenitors wanted to reclaim the Manifold
planets and use them as bases to conquer the star systems surrounding the Progenitor planets,
these Progenitors became known as the Manifold Usurpers and a large number of veterans from the
Succession Wars joined their ranks. The other group became known as the Manifold Caretakers and
wanted to rebuild following the Succession Wars and allow the Manifold planets to remain unclaimed.
The Manifold Caretakers had the support of the new Progenitor leader and had claim to the Core
Systems, but they were unable to stop the Manifold Usurpers from claiming Manifold One and Manifold
Three, two of the three Manifold planets whose locations were known. Afterwards, the two factions
began to actively fight each, opening a new round of civil war. Knowing that possession of the
remaining Manifold planets would swing the balance of power, both factions sent out ships to locate
them, as the records of the location of Manifold Two, Manifold Five, and Manifold Six had been
destroyed during one of the many civil wars since the planets were seeded with the planetary
intelligence.
Progenitors are humanoids, with two legs and two arms, but their heads are more similar to an
insect, with weak mandibles instead of a moth. However, the comparison to an insect falls short,
as the Progenitors have recessed eyes and numerous claws protruding from their faces. Although
they are bipedal like Humans, Progenitors are taller and bulkier then most Humans and they have
a larger, more advanced brain then Humans. The most interesting aspect of the Progenitors is
their lack of vocal chords. Instead of speaking, Progenitors can generate what they call a
Resonance Wave, which can be heard by other Progenitors and by creatures that can "hear" resonance
waves, like most native life forms on the Progenitors hole world. The lack of vocal chords, made
communication between Humans and the Progenitors almost impossible, and the Progenitors arrogant
and aggressive attitudes escalated already tense first contacts into fights. It was not until
prolonged contact between the Manifold Usurpers and the Lord's Believers, that sign language was
used to establish intelligent contact between the two races and led to the development of the
first language translator between the two species. The translator was subsequently copied by the
Manifold Caretakers and has even been reproduced by some Nomad groups that frequent Progenitor
territory.
Progenitors reproduce by laying eggs, but unlike Humans, Progenitors are only sexually active
once a year, for a short two week period. During this time, Progenitors mate at random and as
frequently as possible, although they can suppress their urges if necessary. After the mating
season, the female Progenitors actively decides how many fertile eggs will be laid, if any. In
modern Progenitor society, most females lay only one or no eggs every mating season, but on Chiron,
the Progenitor females have been generally laying the maximum number of eggs, which is five, each
mating season, since they arrived on Chiron. Progenitors do not form any family ties and while it
is possible for some Progenitors to form a permanent bond with a member of the opposite gender, it
is exceedingly rare, but generally for life.

- Natural Armor Rating: 10
- Average Life Span: 200 to 250 years
- Horror Factor: 8
- Natural Abilities:
- Resonance Wave:
Progenitors communicate with each other by generating a special wave of energy
called a Resonance Wave. Only those that can receive and decode these waves can
"hear" Progenitors talk. Producing these waves allows a Progenitor to communicate
with any and all other Progenitors within 100' (30.5 m) range without generating
any noise. The waves produced by a Progenitor can be directed at a single,
specific Progenitor, if the generating Progenitor knows the target's exact
location, of the wave can be broadcast so that all Progenitors within a radius
or cone within 100' (30.5) of the Progenitor receive the wave.
- Sense Resonance Wave:
All Progenitors project a resonance wave even when they are not attempting to
communicate with other Progenitors. This resonance wave has no language, but is
easily "heard" by all Progenitors within a certain range. Due to this, it is
impossible for a Progenitor to sneak up on another of its kind.
- Range: 2000' (610 m)
- Control Planetary Intelligence Creatures:
All Progenitors can exert control over planetary intelligence creatures, like
Mind Worms. Most Progenitors can control a single Mind Worm per point of ME
attribute, but at levels 5, 10, and 15 and for each point bonus from a high ME
attribute, a Progenitor can control a single larva native life form, like a
Larva Mind Worm Boil. In exchange of two larva creatures, a Progenitor can
instead control a Mature-sized creature and in exchange of two mature creatures,
a Progenitor can control a Demon-sized creature. For example, a level 11
Progenitor with an ME attribute of 23 can control 23 mind worms and 6 larva-sized
native life forms. This control is permanent and requires a melee attack to take
control of each creature, but it cannot be used on a creature that is not under
the control of the planetary intelligence, so it cannot be used on mind worms
controlled by a Human faction or another Progenitor. The control lasts as long as
the creature remains within 5' (1.5 m) of the Progenitor for each point of ME
attribute the Progenitor possesses.
- Damaging Wave: (Manifold Usurpers only)
Once per melee round as a melee attack, a Progenitor from the Manifold Usurpers
faction can generate a wave modulation that is powerful enough to damage even the
toughest substance. Although it has a limited range compared to modern weapons,
with this ability, a Progenitor is never truly unarmed.
- Range: 100' (30.5 m)
- Damage: 3D6
- Disorientating Wave: (Manifold Caretakers only)
Once per minute as a melee attack, a Progenitor from the Manifold Caretakers
action can generate a powerful wave modulation that will cause intense pain in
everyone within a small area. Those that fail the saving throw suffer a penalty
of -2 to all combat rolls, including damage from hand-to-hand combat, and saving
throws for 1D4 minutes. These penalties are not cumulative even if the target is
affected by multiple Disorientating Waves from different Progenitors.
- Area of Effect: 20' (6.1) radius, centered on the Progenitor.
- Saving Throw: Save vs. Pain (base save for Pain is 14 and gains a
bonus from PE attribute).
- Experience Level: Average experience level for a Progenitor from the original ship
is 2D4+4. Average experience level for planet-born Progenitors is 1D4.
- Combat Skills: Starts with 2 attacks per melee (this is in addition to Hand to
Hand combat skills).
- Damage: Same as a Human.
- Penalties: Progenitors have no vocal chords and has no way of producing vocal
sounds so it cannot "talk" in the traditional sense. The Progenitors have developed a
translator for the resonance waves they produce and Progenitors expecting to come into
contact with Humans carry one, but most Progenitors do not.
- R.C.C. Skills:
- Language: Progenitor (98%)
- Literacy: Progenitor (98%)
- Math: Basic (98%)
- Science: 2 of choice (+15%)
- O.C.C. Selection: Progenitors can use the colonist character creation process
to select a specialization to determine the occupation of by Progenitor. Progenitors
can select any specialization except Cyborg and are automatically considered to have
a PhD education level. Alternatively, a Progenitor can select to take the Progenitor
Legionnaire OCC instead of selecting a specialization and education level.
- Allies: The Lord's Believers have struck an alliance with the Manifold Usurpers
and are treated as friends by that Progenitor faction and most Nomads living in
Progenitor-controlled territory are not harmed, as long as they don't provoke the
Progenitors.
- Enemies: The two Progenitor factions hate each other and regard each other as
enemies and they distrust most Humans and they often become frustrated and hostile when
Humans do not understand them.
- Equipment: Most Progenitor adventurers will be scouts for one of the two
Progenitor factions and will be given a resonance wave translator for the common Human
language, a resonance blast gun, a resonance blast rifle, two e-clips for each weapon,
light resonance armor, and standard survival gear. A group of adventurers will often be
given a rover or a patrol boat by the faction's central government to share.
