Troop Transport Rover

(Version 1.01 - Last Modified: 06/30/2004)

Although the Speeder is the standard attack and reconnaissance vehicle for the Human factions, there is an obvious need to transport large numbers of infantry from one location to another quickly. To fulfill this need, all of the factions have developed a troop transport variant for the speeder. Although the Human factions have different levels of technology and industrial infrastructure, they all started with the same designs and technology, making the resulting vehicles very similar and the troop transport is no different. Designed to maximize cargo space for troops and their equipment, the troop transport has only minimal armor and weapon systems. Relying on escorting speeders for defense, the troop transports are essential to bring large numbers of infantry from the population centers of the factions to the forward lines of combat.

Although in the long run, even primitive trains would be far better at transporting ground troops and equipment then the troop transport rover, the undeveloped state of the wilderness on Chiron often required a rapidly mobile and versatile structure. The troop transport rover filled this role nicely. Capable of traveling cross country for long distances, the troop transport rover is rugged enough to withstand the harsh wilderness the still predominates nearly all of the land area of Chrion, even after a century and a half of Human habitation. A number of troop transport rovers have also come into the possession of most nomad bands and they often serve as the basis for their roving caravans.

Each troop transport rover can hold twenty fully armed and armored infantry soldiers or six tons (5.4 metric tons) of cargo. Although the vehicle is equipped with a powerful turret, that is its only weapon system. Therefore, a group of troop transport rovers are often protected by a small number of speeders, just to ensure that they cannot be easily destroyed by a surprise attack from mind worm boils, another faction, or the Progenitors. Although troop organizations vary from group to group, some Human factions, such as the Spartan Federation has begun deploying troop transport rovers that are more heavily armed and armored in order to create primitive infantry fighting vehicles, but for now, the vast majority of land-based troop transports follow the basic design presented below.
