Reaver
(Version 1.01 - Last Modified: 10/14/2002)
The Reavers are the most powerful, land-base vehicles used by the Protoss. The Reaver is a giant robot used to assault an
enemy fortification. Similar to artillery, the Reavers are brought near an enemy installation and they attack using highly
explosive scarabs. The scarabs race towards the target and explode, causing massive damage to the target.
The Reaver is a gigantic robot, shaped like a large slug, and it moves slowly, but it is heavily armored and has several
defenses besides the devastating scarabs. Several Phase Disrupters, the main weapon of the Dragoon
Combat Armor, line each side of the Reaver to protect it from additional dangers. Inside the belly of each Reaver is a
small manufacturing plant used to build a small number of the highly explosive scarabs.
Vehicle Type: Mobile Artillery
Crew: None, controlled by an artificial intelligence
M.D.C. by location:
- Phase Disrupters (6) - 150 each
- Scarab Launcher - 200
- Engine Thrusters (3, bottom) - 50 each
- Main Body - 600 *
- Shield Generator - 800 **
M.D.C. Armor Rating: 10 (See Mega-Damage Properties for
more details on M.D.C. Armor Ratings and M.D.C. Weapon Ratings)
Notes:
| * |
Depleting the M.D.C. of the Main Body will put the robot out of commission. All internal systems
will shut down, including the artificial intelligence. |
| ** |
The shield generator creates a powerful shield around the robot. At maximum strength the shield has
800 M.D.C. and regenerates at a rate of 10 M.D.C. per melee round. If completely depleted, the shield
cannot be recreated for half an hour. After that time it can be reactivated at full strength. Once
activated, the shield can remain active indefinitely. |
Speed:
- Hover: The reaver hovers off the ground using special anti-gravity generators built into the underside of
the main body. The reaver can hover as low as 1' (0.3 m) off the ground up to a height of 200' (61.0 m). The
reaver can hover without moving or it can travel at up to 50 mph (80.5 km/h) in any direction.
- Sublight: The robot is not really designed for sublight travel, but it can accelerate at a rate of
5 miles per second (8 km/s).
- Underwater: The robot can travel up to a maximum speed of 5 mph (8 km/h), and has a maximum depth
tolerance of 2 miles (3.2 km).
- Maximum Range: Effectively unlimited by drive system.
Statistical Data:
- Height: 20' (6.1 m)
- Width: 10' (3.1 m)
- Length: 80' (24.4 m)
- Weight: 68 tons (61.7 metric tons)
- Reactor System: Khaydarin Crystal Reactor with a life span of 150 years.
- Propulsion System: Anti-Gravity Generator
- Physical Strength: Equal to a robotic P.S. of 50.
- Physical Prowess: Equal to a P.P. of 6.
- Cargo: None
Weapon Systems:
- Phase Disrupters (6)
The cannons, three on each side of the robot, are secondary weapons used to protect the Reaver from enemies that
do not need to be attacked by a Scarab. The weapons are also used to provide cover fire for the Zealot Warriors.
The Phase Disrupter works by disrupting electrons at the point of intact by placing them slightly out of phase.
With the electrons out of phase, the protons repel from each other and the area around the point of impact
disintegrates. The cannons are located in special turrets that can turn 180 degrees and has an arc of fire of
180 degrees. These weapons are considered to be the equivalent of a particle beam weapon.
- Range: 3 miles (4.8 m) underwater, 6 miles (9.7 km) through atmosphere, and 48 miles (77.2 km) in
space.
- Damage: 3D4x10 M.D. per shot
- M.D.C. Weapon Rating: 10
- Rate of Fire: Each cannon can fire twice per melee.
- Payload: Effectively Unlimited
- Scarab Launcher
The Scarabs are a recent design and one of the most powerful devices ever created by the Protoss. They were never
used in battle until the battle against the Zerg began. During the short war, the Protoss discovered the scarabs
were very useful against the swarms of Zerg creatures, which was beneficial to the Templar who came to rely on the
Reavers capabilities during the invasion of Aiur. Scarabs are similar to missiles, but are built slightly
differently. Once within range of their target, their specially designed warhead explodes causing incredible
damage as the atoms within the blast radius attempt to rip apart. This creates a small nuclear-type explosion
centered at the point of the scarab's explosion.
- Range: 5 miles (8 km) underwater, 10 miles (16.1 km) through atmosphere, and 100 miles (161 km) in space.
- Damage: 6D6x100 M.D. per single shot.
- Blast Radius: 25' (7.6 m) underwater, 50' (15.2 m) through atmosphere, and 5000' (1524 m) in space.
- M.D.C. Weapon Rating: 12
- Speed: The Scarabs travel at a constant speed of 500 mph (804.7km/h) underwater, 1000 mph (1600 km/h) in
an atmosphere, and accelerates at a rate of 2% (0.02c) the speed of light per melee in space.
- Rate of Fire: The launcher can fire three times per melee.
- Payload: Conditionally unlimited; the Reaver has storage space for 20 scarabs and it takes 1 minute to
manufacture a new scarab. A Reaver can only manufacture 40 new scarabs before it needs to replenish materials
used in the manufacture of new scarabs. Usually a Reaver will be sent out to battle with a full load of scarabs
and full resources to build the 40 new ones when needed.
- Hand to Hand Combat
Rather than use a weapon, the robot can engage in hand-to-hand combat.
- Bonuses:
- Eight attacks per melee
- +5 to strike, applicable to all weapon systems and hand-to-hand combat
- +2 to dodge
- Critical strike on a natural roll of 20
- Damage:
- Ram: 2D6 M.D. at maximum speed (with a Weapon Rating of 12)
Special Systems:
- Sensor Systems
The robot is equipped with a small sensor suite revolving around two powerful sensor systems. The first is a
powerful radar array that has a range of 300 miles (482.8 km) and uses standard radar waves, which are easy to
jam, but it is obvious when the radar is being jammed. The final system is a magical energy sensor that will
detect anything that has more then 50 points of PPE or ISP, is a supernatural creature or creature of magic, or
is a dimensional anomaly within 100 miles (160.9 km). The robot also has the following basic sensor systems: a
laser detection system and a radar detection system.
- Communication System
The robot is equipped with a 5 lb (2.3 kg) Khaydarin Crystal. The crystal allows communication with other Crystal
Communicators at a range of 50,000 miles (80,467 km) and with other communication devices at half that range.
