Dark Templar Armor
(Version 1.00 - Last Modified: 11/13/2002)
Introduction
Based on the designs of the Templar caste, the Dark Templar designed two suits of combat armor. As opposed to
regular Protoss armor that uses Khaydarin Crystals as psionic devices, the Dark Templar use the crystals for
their magical properties, although the end result is virtually identical.
As with normal Protoss armor, the Dark Templar armor is designed to be used by the Protoss race only; most
humanoid races are not large enough nor have the right body shape to use them. All Dark Templar armor can be
used in an atmosphere, underwater, and in space. When in space, underwater, or when needed to protect the
wearer from airborne toxins, special armor plating will emerge from the armor to cover the exposed areas of
the body, such as the hands and the head, making the suit fully environmental. As the suits are powered by
Khaydarin Crystals, they weakly radiate magical energy and all information from the suit is displayed
directly into the mind of the wearer, there are no display screens.
Standard Armor Features
- Compass and Clock Calendar:
Contains a highly accurate compass that automatically aligns itself to a local magnetic field. This
system also holds an accurate clock and calendar based on the standard Protoss way of measuring time.
- Radiation Shielding:
The armor has advanced radiation shielding and is equipped with sensors to monitor the amount of
radiation that the body armor is exposed to.
- High Temperature Insulation:
The armor is designed to resist temperatures up to 300 degrees centigrade. Normal fires inflict no
damage, but extremely high temperature fires, such as plasma and magic fire, inflict full damage.
- Advanced Life Support:
That armor has a computer controlled life support system with artificial air circulation, gas
filtration, and humidifier. It also has an independent oxygen supply which automatically engages in
conditions of low oxygen and contaminated air and has a ten hour oxygen supply. The wearer is aware
of present atmospheric conditions, including toxins in the air and amount of oxygen remaining.
- Temperature Control:
Has an internal cooling system and temperature control. Temperature can be set for wearer preferences.
The wearer is aware of temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure.
- Protective Visor:
The visor is polarized and is light sensitive. It adjusts tinting to protect the wearer’s eyes.
Polarization darkens quickly to protect against sudden bright lights as well as darkening more slowly
to deal with powerful light conditions.
- M.D.C. Armor Rating:
All Dark Templar Body Armor has an Armor Rating of 8. See
Mega-Damage Properties for more details on M.D.C. Armor Ratings.
- Crystal Communicator:
The armor has a device that holds a 2 lb (0.9 kg) Khaydarin Crystal. The crystal allows communication
with other Crystal Communicators at a range of 500 miles (804.7 km) and with other communication
devices at half that range.
- Sensors:
The armor has a 2 lb (0.9 kg) Khaydarin Crystal that provides the wearer with the following magical
powers that are constantly in effect: See the Invisible and Sense Magic. All spells are used at fifth
level of experience.
Heavy Combat Armor
When going into combat, a High Templar wears a specially designed suit of combat armor that protects
them from damage. The Heavy Combat Armor was designed with the High Templar in mind, but during the
invasion of Aiur many of these suits were manufactured and given to the Khalai and the Judicator
castes to allow them to defend the planet alongside the Templar caste. This armor is not as strong
as the Zealot Armor, but it still provides significant protection.
- Class: Full Combat Armor
- Crew: One
- M.D.C. by location:
- Forearm Units (2) - 40 each
- Helmet - 30
- Arms (2) - 40 each
- Legs (2) - 50 each
- Main Body - 120
- Shield Generator - 100
- Speed:
- Running - 80 mph (128.7 km/h) and the act of running will not tire out the wearer.
- Leaping - 45’ (13.7 m) vertically or horizontally and double the jumping distance if
running at maximum speed.
- Statistical Data:
- Height - Add 1' (0.3 m) to wearer’s height
- Width - Add 1’ (0.3 m) to wearer’s width
- Weight - 60 lbs (27.2 kg)
- Bonuses - Add +6 to PS and +3 to PP
- Power System - Khaydarin Crystal Reactor with a life span of 50 years
- Market Cost - Millions for research purposes. For actual combat purposes, it has limited use
since only the Protoss know how to maintain it.
- Special Systems:
- Forearm Units (2):
The forearm units can create two powerful energy blades. The warp blades, as they are called by
the Dark Templar, is based off of a technology the Lost Tribes discovered during their years of
exile and they provide a powerful alternative to the psi-blades that the Lost Tribes can no
longer create.
- Range: Melee range only, the blades can be anything length up to 3' (0.9 m) long.
- Damage: 1D4x10 M.D. per strike
- M.D.C. Weapon Rating: 10, but is increased by the strength of the wielder.
- Payload: Effectively unlimited
- PPE Battery:
Using a 15 lb (6.8 kg) Khaydarin Crystal, the armor has 150 PPE available to the wearer.
The PPE is regenerated at a rate of 15 PPE every hour or 15 PPE every ten minutes if
within 1 mile (1.6 km) of a ley line or nexus point.
- Shield Generator:
The shield generator allows the wearer to create an Armor of Ithan with 100 M.D.C. that
regenerates at a rate of 5 M.D.C. per minute and can be active indefinitely. The shield
costs 10 PPE to generate, but this energy must come from the armor’s PPE Battery. If
fully depleted, the shield will no longer regenerate and must be reactivated. While this
shield is active, the wearer cannot cast another Armor of Ithan spell.
- Invisibility Crystal:
Using a 3 lb (1.4 kg) Khaydarin Crystal, the Heavy Combat Armor is able to activate an
Invisibility: Superior spell at will and for as long as the wearer wishes it to remain
active. This provides the Dark Templar a very strong ability against foes that are not
expecting an enemy protected by magic.
Light Combat Armor
Light Combat Armor is a stripped down version of the Heavy Combat Armor, without the weapons or the cloaking device.
Dark Pilots and some commanding officers use it. It is smaller and less heavily armored then the other suits of
armor and is not designed for combat except in an emergency.
