Introduction

While the Zentraedi may have been disposable troops for the Robotech Elders and Masters, and while the Zentraedi had no problems with sacrificing their own lives to serve their leaders, the leaders of the Zentraedi maintained a highly structured military organized throughout the entire existence of the Zentraedi armada. Since Zentraedi mecha could be used both in space and in an atmosphere with no problems, the planners had designed their mecha formations with both space and ground combat in mind, with many of the same formations useful in both situations. Although some formations could only be used on the ground, such as the Infantry formations, all others were trained to operate in space as their main area of operations. Even though the Zentraedi maintained a huge army, their experience with ground combat was quite limited, as their major tactics involved heavy space bombardment, which considerably softened up any resistance the Zentraedi would face.

Mecha Unit Formations

1. Squad:
   Squads are the smallest tactical unit and while they might operate independently in tactical situations, they are not organized at this size and must be part of a larger organization for strategic planning.
   
   
   • A Combat Pod Squad is the smallest operational unit for Combat Pods. The Combat Pod Squad fights in two three teams and consists of a squad leader, three fire team leaders, and six combat pilots. All members of a Combat Pod Squad will pilot a Regult Combat Pod. Each squad has a total of ten soldiers and ten Regult Combat Pods.
   • A Cyclops Scout Squad is the smallest operational unit for the Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scout. The Cyclops Scout Squad consists of a single Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scout and its crew. Each squad has a total of three soldiers and one Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scout.
   • A Fighter Pod Squad is the smallest operational unit for Fighter Pods. The Fighter Squad consists of a squad leader and five combat pilots. All members of a Fighter Squad will pilot a Raulonve Fighter Pod. Each squad has a total of six soldiers and six Raulonve Fighter Pods.
   • A Heavy Artillery Squad is the smallest operational unit for Heavy Artillery Pods. The Heavy Artillery Squad consists of a squad leader and four combat pilots. All members of a Heavy Artillery Squad will pilot a Heavy Artillery Pod. Each squad has a total of five soldiers and five Heavy Artilley Pods.
   • An Infantry Squad is the smallest operational units for infantry. The Infantry Squad consists of a squad leader, seven riflemen, and two heavy weapons soldiers. All soldiers are armed with the Zentraedi Rifle, except for the heavy weapons soldiers who are equipped with Heavy Zentraedi Rifles. Each squad has a total of ten infantry soldiers.
   • A Light Artillery Squad is the smallest operational unit for Light Artillery Pods. The Light Artillery Squad consists of a squad leader and four combat pilots. All members of a Light Artillery Squad will pilot a Light Artillery Pod. Each squad has a total of five soldiers and five Light Artilley Pods.
   • A Power Armor Squad is the smallest operational unit for power armors of any type. The Power Armor Squad fights in two fire teams and consists of a squad leader, two fire team leaders, and four combat pilots. All members of a Power Armor Squad will pilot the same type of power armor. Each squad has a total of seven soldiers and seven suits of power armor.
   • A Recon Scout Squad is the smallest operational unit for Recon Scout Pods. The Recon Scout Squad consists of a squad leader and two combat pilots. All members of a Recon Scout Squad will pilot a Recon Scout Pod. Each squad has a total of three soldiers and three Recon Scout Pods.


2. Platoon:
   Platoons consist of two or more squads. All platoons have a platoon headquarters, which always consists of a Platoon leader, and may include an assistant platoon leader.
   
   
   • A Combat Pod Platoon consists of a platoon leader, two assistant platoon leaders, and three Combat Pod Squads. The platoon leader and the assistant platoon leaders all pilot Regult Combat Pods. Each platoon has a total of 33 soldiers and 33 Regult Combat Pods.
   • A Cyclops Scout Platoon consists of a Combat Pod Squad and two Cyclops Scout Squads. The platoon leader commands one of the Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scouts. Each squad has a total of 16 soldiers, 10 Regult Combat Pods, and 2 Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scouts.
   • A Fighter Pod Platoon consists of a platoon leader, an assistant platoon leader, and three Fight Squads. The platoon leader and the assistant platoon leader pilot Raulonve Fighter Pods. Each platoon has a total of 20 soldiers and 20 Raulonve Fighter Pods.
   • A Heavy Artillery Platoon consists of a platoon leader, an assistant platoon leader and three Heavy Artillery Squads. The platoon leader and the assistant platoon leader pilot Heavy Artillery Pods. Each platoon has a total of 17 soldiers and 17 Heavy Artilley Pods.
   • An Infantry Platoon consists of a platoon headquarters and three Infantry Squads. The headquarters squad consists of a platoon leader, an assistant platoon leader, and two communication specialists, all armed with Zentraedi Rifles. Each platoon has a total of 34 infantry soldiers.
   • A Light Artillery Platoon consists of a platoon leader, an assistant platoon leader and three Light Artillery Squads. The platoon leader and the assistant platoon leader pilot Light Artillery Pods. Each platoon has a total of 17 soldiers and 17 Light Artilley Pods.
   • A Power Armor Platoon consists of a platoon leader, an assistant platoon leader and two Power Armor Squads. The platoon leader and the assistant platoon leader pilot the same type of power armor as the Power Armor Squads. Each platoon has a total of 16 soldiers and 16 suits of power armor.
   • A Recon Scout Platoon consists of a platoon leader, an assistant platoon leader, a Combat Pod Squad, and two Recon Scout Squads. The platoon leader and the assistant platoon leader pilot Recon Scout Pods. Each platoon has a total of 18 soldiers, 10 Regult Combat Pods, and 8 Recon Scout Pods.


3. Company:
   Companies consist of two or more platoons, usually of the same type, a headquarters, and limited self-support capability. Companies are the basic elements of all battalions. They are also assigned as separate units of brigades and larger organizations. All close combat companies can fight massed or by separate platoons.
   
   
   • A Combat Pod Company consists of a company headquarters, four Combat Pod Platoons, and one Light Artillery Platoon. The company headquarters consists of a company commander in a Glag Battle Pod and two deputy company commanders in Regult Combat Pods. Each company has a total of 152 soldiers, 134 Regult Combat Pods, 1 Glaug Battle Pod, and 17 Light Artillery Pods.
   • A Cyclops Scout Company consists of a company headquarters, one Combat Pod Platoon, and three Cyclops Scout Platoons. The company headquarters consists of a company commander in a Glaug Battle Pod with a booster and two deputy company commanders Regult Combat Pods. Each company has a total of 84 soldiers, 65 Regult Combat Pods, 1 Glaug Battle Pod, 1 Glaug Booster Unit, and 6 Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scouts.
   • A Fighter Pod Company consists of a company headquarters and four Fighter Pod Platoons. The company headquarters consists of a company commander and a deputy company commander, both in Raulonve Fighter Pods. Each company has a total of 82 soldiers and 82 Raulonve Fighter Pods.
   • An Infantry Company consists of a company headquarters and three Infantry Platoons. The company headquarters consists of a company commander, a deputy company commander, and three communication specialists, all armed with Zentraedi Rifles. Each company has a total of 107 infantry soldiers.
   • A Power Armor Company consists of a company headquarters, a Heavy Artillery Platoon, and three Power Armor Platoons. The company headquarters consists of a company commander, a deputy company commander, and two communication specialists, all in the same type of armor as the Power Armor Platoons. Each company has a total of 69 soldiers, 17 Heavy Artillery Pods, and 52 suits of power armor.
   • A Reconnaissance Company consists of a company headquarters, a Combat Pod Platoon, a Cyclops Scout Squad, and three Recon Scout Platoons. The company headquarters consists of a company commander, a deputy company commander, and two communication specialists, all in Recon Scout Pods. Each company has a total of 94 soldiers, 63 Regult Combat Pods, 28 Recon Scout Pods, and 1 Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scout.


4. Battery:
   A Battery is the term that the Zentraedi apply to their units composed primarily of Light or Heavy Artillery Pods that are around the size of a Zentraedi company. They are normally organized with a firing battery, a battery headquarters, and limited support sections. They may fire and move together or by platoon. Normally batteries fight as part of their parent battalion, however, they sometimes respond directly to a maneuver battalion or company.
   
   
   • A Heavy Artillery Battery consists of a battery headquarters, a Combat Pod Platoon, and three Heavy Artillery Platoons. The battery headquarters consists of a battery commander, a deputy battery commander, and two communication specialists, all in Heavy Artillery Pods. Each battery has a total of 88 soldiers, 33 Regult Combat Pods, and 55 Heavy Artilley Pods.
   • A Light Artillery Battery consists of a battery headquarters, a Combat Pod Platoon, and three Light Artillery Platoons. The battery headquarters consists of a battery commander, a deputy battery commander, and two communication specialists, all in Light Artillery Pods. Each battery has a total of 88 soldiers, 33 Regult Combat Pods, and 55 Light Artilley Pods.


5. Battalion:
   Battalions are designed to perform single tactical missions as part of a brigade's tactical operations. Battalions attack, defend, delay, or move to assume new missions. They may be part of a brigade or directly part of a division but, in any case, they normally perform functional services for a larger supported unit within that unit's area of operations. All battalions, regardless of type, are capable of at least limited, short-term self-defense. The battalions are tactically self-sufficient and each battalion is of essentially one combat arm, such as infantry or combat pods.
   
   
   • An Air Assault Battalion consists of a battalion headquarters, a Fighter Pod Company, and four Power Armor Companies (Female). The battalion headquarters consists of a battalion commander and battalion staff of 9 soldiers, all in suits of Queadlunn-Rau Tactical Power Armor. Each battalion has a total of 368 soldiers, 68 Heavy Artillery Pods, 82 Raulonve Fighter Pods, and 218 suits of Queadlunn-Rau Tactical Power Armor.
   • An Artillery Battalion consists of a battalion headquarters, two Heavy Artillery Batteries, two Light Artillery Batteries, and one Recon Scout Platoon. The battalion headquarters consists of a battalion commander in a Glaug Battle Pod and battalion staff of 13 soldiers in Regult Combat Pods. Each battalion has a total of 384 soldiers, 155 Regult Combat Pods, 1 Glaug Battle Pod, 110 Light Artillery Pods, 110 Heavy Artillery Pods, and 8 Recon Scout Pods.
   • A Combat Pod Battalion consists of a battalion headquarters, four Combat Pod Companies, one Heavy Artillery Platoon, and one Recon Scout Platoon. The battalion headquarters consists of a battalion commander in a Glaug Battle Pod and battalion staff of 13 soldiers in Regult Combat Pods. Each battalion has a total of 657 soldiers, 559 Regult Combat Pods, 5 Glaug Battle Pod, 68 Light Artillery Pods, 17 Heavy Artillery Pods, and 8 Recon Scout Pods.
   • A Fighter Pod Battalion consists of a battalion headquarters and four Fighter Pod Companies. The battalion headquarters consists of a battalion commander in a Glaug Battle Pod with a booster unit and battalion staff of 10 soldiers in Raulonve Fighter Pods. Each battalion has a total of 339 soldiers, 1 Glaug Battle Pod, 338 Raulonve Fighter Pods, and 1 Glaug Booster Unit.
   • A Ground Assault Battalion consists of a battalion headquarters, a Combat Pod Company, and four Power Armor Companies (Male). The battalion headquarters consists of a battalion commander and battalion staff of 9 soldiers, all in suits of Nousjaedul-Ger Cavalry Power Armor. Each battalion has a total of 438 soldiers, 134 Regult Combat Pods, 1 Glaug Battle Pod, 17 Light Artillery Pods, 68 Heavy Artillery Pods, and 218 suits of Nousjaedul-Ger Cavalry Power Armor.
   • An Infantry Battalion consists of a battalion headquarters, one Combat Pod Company, four Infantry Companies, and one Recon Scout Platoon. The battalion headquarters consists of a battalion commander and battalion staff of 16 soldiers, all armed with Zentraedi Rifles. Each battalion has a total of 463 infantry soldiers, 152 soldiers, 144 Regult Combat Pods, 1 Glaug Battle Pod, 17 Light Artillery Pods, and 8 Recon Scout Pods.
   • A Reconnaissance Battalion consists of a battalion headquarters, two Cyclops Scout Platoons, and three Reconnaissance Companies. The battalion headquarters consists of a battalion commander and battalion staff of 8 soldiers spread over three Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scouts. Each battalion has a total of 323 soldiers, 209 Regult Combat Pods, 84 Recon Scout Pods, and 10 Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scout.


6. Brigades:
   The primary mission of the brigade is to deploy on short notice and destroy, capture, or repel enemy forces, using maneuver and shock effect. They are subordinate commands of a division and army and perform major tactical operations as part of a division or army operation. Brigades are the lowest level where units of different types are mixed together to create units that are capable of sustained, independent combat operations. At this level, the commanders of a brigade are expected to remain behind the frontlines. The most common location for a brigade commander and the brigade staff is either on a nearby spaceship, a spaceship orbiting above the location of the brigade, or in a forward base camp that is just behind the area of fighting.
   
   
   • An Air Assault Brigade consists of a brigade headquarters, three Air Assault Battalions, one Fighter Pod Battalion, and one Reconnaissance Company. The brigade headquarters consists of a brigade commander and brigade staff of 67 soldiers. Each brigade has a total of 1605 soldiers, 63 Regult Combat Pods, 1 Glaug Battle Pod, 204 Heavy Artillery Pods, 28 Recon Scout Pods, 584 Raulonve Fighter Pods, 1 Glaug Booster Unit, 654 suits of Queadlunn-Rau Tactical Power Armor, and 1 Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scout.
   • An Artillery Brigade consists of a brigade headquarters, one Combat Pod Company, four Artillery Battalions, and one Reconnaissance Company. The brigade headquarters consists of a brigade commander and brigade staff of 89 soldiers. Each brigade has a total of 1872 soldiers, 817 Regult Combat Pods, 5 Glaug Battle Pods, 457 Light Artillery Pods, 440 Heavy Artillery Pods, 60 Recon Scout Pods, and 1 Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scout.
   • A Combat Pod Brigade consists of a brigade headquarters, four Combat Pod Battalions, one Heavy Artillery Battery, one Light Artillery Battery, and one Reconnaissance Company. The brigade headquarters consists of a brigade commander and brigade staff of 82 soldiers. Each brigade has a total of 2981 soldiers, 2335 Regult Combat Pods, 20 Glaug Battle Pods, 325 Light Artillery Pods, 123 Heavy Artillery Pods, 60 Recon Scout Pods, and 1 Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scout.
   • A Fighter Pod Brigade consists of a brigade headquarters, four Fighter Pod Battalions, and one Reconnaissance Company. The brigade headquarters consists of a brigade commander and brigade staff of 64 soldiers. Each brigade has a total of 1515 soldiers, 63 Regult Combat Pods, 4 Glaug Battle Pods, 28 Recon Scout Pods, 1352 Raulonve Fighter Pods, 4 Glaug Booster Units, and 1 Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scout.
   • A Ground Assault Brigade consists of a brigade headquarters, three Ground Assault Battalions, one Infantry Battalion, and one Reconnaissance Company. The brigade headquarters consists of a brigade commander and brigade staff of 56 soldiers. Each brigade has a total of 463 infantry soldiers, 1617 soldiers, 610 Regult Combat Pods, 3 Glaug Battle Pods, 64 Light Assault Pods, 204 Heavy Artillery Pods, 36 Recon Scout Pods, 654 suits of Nousjaedul-Ger Cavalry Power Armor, and 1 Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scout.
   • An Infantry Brigade consists of a brigade headquarters, four Infantry Battalions, one Heavy Artillery Battery, one Light Artillery Battery, and one Reconnaissance Company. The brigade headquarters consists of a brigade commander and brigade staff of 78 soldiers. Each brigade has a total of 1852 infantry soldiers, 957 soldiers, 705 Regult Combat Pods, 4 Glaug Battle Pods, 123 Light Artillery Pods, 55 Heavy Artillery Pods, 60 Recon Scout Pods, and 1 Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scout.
   • A Reconnaissance Brigade consists of a battalion headquarters, one Cyclops Scout Company, and four Reconnaissance Battalions. The brigade headquarters consists of a brigade commander and brigade staff of 59 soldiers. Each brigade has a total of 1436 soldiers, 901 Regult Combat Pods, 1 Glaug Battle Pod, 336 Recon Scout Pods, 1 Glaug Booster Unit, and 46 Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scout.


7. Division:
   Divisions are fixed combined arms organizations of battalions and other combat and support units. Capable of performing any tactical mission and designed to be largely self-sustaining, divisions are the basic units of maneuver at the tactical level. Divisions possess great flexibility. They tailor their brigades and attached forces for specific combat missions. Their support units may be attached to or placed in support of brigades for the performance of a particular mission. Divisions perform major tactical operations for the army and can conduct sustained battles and engagements. They almost never direct actions at the operational level (campaigns or major operations), but an army may use them to perform tasks of operational importance. These may include exploiting tactical advantages to seize objectives in depth, moving to gain contact with enemy forces, or moving by air to seize objectives behind an enemy force. Each division contains a division headquarters that has to remain behind the frontlines and coordinate the operation of the division. In addition to the division headquarters, each division contains a support unit, which is tasked with maintaining the troops, which mostly consists of feeding them, providing medical support, and rearming mecha; damaged mecha are not repaired.
   
   
   • An Air Assault Division consists of a division headquarters, a support unit, three Air Assault Brigades, one Fighter Pod Brigade, and one Reconnaissance Battalion. The division headquarters consists of a division commander and division staff, with a total of 234 soldiers. The support unit consists of 302 soldiers. Each division has a total of 7189 soldiers, 461 Regult Combat Pods, 7 Glaug Battle Pods, 612 Heavy Artillery Pods, 196 Recon Scout Pods, 3104 Raulonve Fighter Pods, 7 Glaug Booster Units, 1962 suits of Queadlunn-Rau Tactical Power Armor, and 14 Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scouts.
   • A Combat Pod Division consists of a division headquarters, a support unit, one Artillery Battalion, four Combat Pod Brigades, and one Reconnaissance Battalion. The division headquarters consists of a division commander and division staff, with a total of 326 soldiers. The support unit consists of 522 soldiers. Each division has a total of 13,479 soldiers, 9704 Regult Combat Pods, 81 Glaug Battle Pods, 1410 Light Artillery Pods, 602 Heavy Artillery Pods, 332 Recon Scout Pods, and 14 Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scouts.
   • A Fighter Pod Division consists of a division headquarters, a support unit, four Fighter Pod Brigades, and one Reconnaissance Battalion. The division headquarters consists of a division commander and division staff, with a total 291 soldiers. The support unit consists of 430 soldiers. Each division has a total of 7104 soldiers, 461 Regult Combat Pods, 16 Glaug Battle Pods, 196 Recon Scout Pods, 5408 Raulonve Fighter Pods, 16 Glaug Booster Units, and 14 Quel Quallie Cyclops Reconnaissance Scout.
   • A Ground Assault Division consists of a division headquarters, a support unit, one Artillery Battalion, three Ground Assault Brigades, one Infantry Brigade, and one Reconnaissance Battalion. The division headquarters consists of a division commander and division staff, with a total 329 soldiers. The support unit consists of 621 soldiers.    • An Infantry Division consists of a division headquarters, a support unit, one Artillery Battalion, four Infantry Brigades, and one Reconnaissance Battalion. The division headquarters consists of a division commander and division staff, with a total 315 soldiers. The support unit consists of 643 soldiers. 8. Army:
   Although the division is the standard organization for Zentraedi units, many times there are multiple divisions operating within the same theatre. Under such circumstances, the divisions will often be organized as armies, the largest formation used by the Zentraedi. At this level, the army headquarters is larger then the division headquarters and will often be assigned exclusively to a single spaceship that will act as the permanent physical headquarters for the army commander. As with divisions, armies include a support unit that is tasked with maintaining the troops, which mostly consists of feeding them, providing medical support, and rearming mecha; damaged mecha are still not repaired.
