Rineunadou Lojmeuean Class Monitor

The ultimate in Tirolian firepower was the Reflex Cannon. This cannon, which could destroy entire cities with one shot, was difficult to construct initially and had a major political and strategic impact. In the first centuries of the Robotech Empire, the Reflex Cannon was reserved for the Tirolians and the most reliable of the Zentraedi. This meant that the cannons were only installed on Tirolian ships and rare Zentraedi vessels. However, as the Empire's enemies began to press harder on the core, it was decided to deploy the cannons in large numbers and mount them on Zentraedi fleet units. The first Zentraedi units to carry the Reflex Cannon in large numbers was a dedicated ship that would be stationed in small units near the Empire's most important systems and installations like Tirol and the Zentraedi Home Base, where they would be under firm political control. This would also preclude the misuse of the cannons by wayward or trigger-happy Zentraedi commanders.

The Rineunadou Lojmeuean monitor, or 'Cannon Ship' as it was also known, was designed as the most economical way to mount a Reflex Cannon at the time. Although it was as mobile as other Zentraedi line vessels, it was designed to be the smallest, yet still technically feasible platform for a Zentraedi-manned Reflex Cannon, and as a consequence the Monitor carried little in the way of secondary batteries or mecha, relying on escort ships instead. As technology improved, the Tirolians discovered ways to include Reflex Cannons on other Zentraedi ships as well, but most were not as powerful as the cannon on the monitor.

The armament on the monitor was not as diverse as on other Zentraedi ships. The Reflex cannon was the weapon of choice against enemy starships, although its rate of fire was not impressive. However, Rineunadou Lojmeuean class vessels usually deployed in groups of ships, and few enemies remained after a combined salvo from such a group. The other armaments included only a few heavy anti-ship cannons and no heavy missile launchers, but there were the normal medium energy cannons and defensive missiles. These were mounted for spherical coverage, as their main task was to defend the monitor against attacking ships. Due to the small size of the crew space, the Reflex Cannon made up most of the ship, the mecha forces stationed aboard were small, with only a rudimentary air group and an equally sized Regult group to back them up. The Rineunadou Lojmeuean class relied mostly on escorts and numbers for defense.

Later, near the end of the Tirolian Mercantile Empire, the Rineunadou Lojmeuean class, like all Zentraedi vessels, suffered from protoculture depletion. Dolza marshaled as many operational Rineunadou Lojmeuean vessels as he could and they folded with him to Earth. Fortunately, energy depletion was so extensive at this point that most vessels could fire their cannons only once, directed towards Earth at Dolza's orders. Most Rineunadou Lojmeuean were lost in that battle, priority targets as they were, although a few survived and either crashed or were incorporated into the short lived Human-Zentraedi fleets.
