Robotech Factory Satellite
(Version 1.00 - Last Modified: 08/07/2003)
- Background information inspired by Zentraedi
Factory Satellite by Pieter Thomassen, with Peter Walker, on the
Unofficial Robotech Reference Guide.
All Robotech Factory Satellites began their lives as an asteroid consisting mainly of iron, silicium, and some
rare minerals such as titanium, molybdenum, and vanadium. In 1760, the first Factory Satellite was finished and
began replacing the normal shipyards that the Robotech Elders used to maintain their fleets. Soon after, the
Robotech Elders decided to concentrate nearly all production of Zentraedi warships in the Factory Satellites,
although, the Border Fleet vessels would continue to be produced in Tirolian facilities throughout the empire
and the massive shipyard facilities in orbit of Kaberra, Haydon IV, and Tirol would be maintained.
The Robotech Factory Satellites consist of a Main Body, holding the largest of the shipyards, as well as the
main systems, the Protoculture Reactor, and the Fold Drive. Attached to the Main Body are four Factory Pods
that hold the main mecha production plants and several shipyards each. A large, reinforced access stalk
connects the Main Body to each of these Factory Pods. The Main Body has one entrance large enough to allow
even a Tirolian Mother Ship (an Azashar Class General Purpose Vessel) access to the inside of the station.
The main docking bay housed incoming vessels prior to assignment to a repair dock and newly constructed
vessels in the final stages of their construction. All of the construction and repair bays located in the
Main Body could be reached from this bay. There are similar docking bays located in the Factory Pods, but
they are much smaller than the bay in the Main Body.
There were few defensive installations installed on the station, especially given its size, but it was
assumed that the Factory Satellite would always use its fold drive if attacked. As a consequence, the station
mounted mainly anti-mecha and anti-missile defense systems. One major aspect of the station's defense
revolved around its permanent defensive fleet, a combat division. Numbering several thousand ships, this
defensive fleet was often more then enough to deal with any but the most determined attackers.

These powerful cannons represent the most powerful portion of the station's limited defense systems.
Strategically placed around the station, there is no arc that doesn't have at least one cannon, but the
largest concentrations are around the entrance doors. Located near the Main Entrance Door are three
cannons, another cannon is located near the Secondary Entrance Doors of each factory pod, and the
remaining three cannons are spread over the main body of the station to cover the remaining arcs.
- Range: 100 miles (160.9 km) underwater, 200 miles (321.9 km) through an atmosphere, and
200,000 miles (321,869 km) in space.

- M.D.C. Weapon Rating: 23
- Rate of Fire: Each cannon can fire once per melee.
- Payload: Effectively unlimited
- Retractable Particle Beam Cannons (40)
Scattered across the hull of the ship are powerful anti-ship particle beam cannons, the cannons stand ready
to pop out from under their sliding hatches to attack. Each turret is capable of 360 degrees of rotation with
an arc of fire of 180 degrees. The cannons are strategically placed around the station so that no arc has
less than five cannons facing it. Six cannons are located on each factory pod and the remaining sixteen
cannons are spread over the main body of the station.

Special Systems:
- Medial and Bio-Scan Facilities
The station has extensive medical facilities that can do anything from mend broken bones to extremely
complicated surgery. The station also has a complete bio-scan chamber used to study and analyze alien life
forms and to provide detailed information regarding the physiology, chemical structure, and genetic
structure of that life form.
- Missile Storage
The station has storage for a large number of missiles used by all Zentraedi ships. Fully loaded, the
station holds 20,000,000 SAA-1 Granite (Gliquoun Touwhaug) Long Range Missiles, 2,000,000
SSA-1 Sniper (Lojredbeth Deuawhaug) Cruise Missiles, and 2,000,000 SSA-2 Scrapper (Letkes Deuawhaug) Cruise
Missiles. These can be transferred to other Zentraedi ships to reload their missile supplies or they can be
used to reload the station's own missile launchers. Transferring missiles to another ship takes about one
minute for every 200 missiles transferred. Reloading the station's missile racks takes about 1 melee round
to completely reload one missile launcher and up to 75 launchers can be reloaded simultaneously.
- Protoculture Reactor Recharger
The station is able to recharge other ship's Protoculture Reactors by draining its own reactor of energy.
For every ten years recharged by the station, the life span of the station's Protoculture Reactor is
reduced by one year.
- Spaceship Production Facilities
The station contains extensive spaceship construction facilities. There are ten building docks measuring
13,123' (4000 m) in length, 30 building docks measuring 8202' (2500 m) in length, and 100 building docks
measuring 1969' (600 m) in length. In total, 140 ships could be under construction at the same time. The
station is only designed to build Zentraedi ship, not Tirolian or Border Fleet ships. At normal production
it takes one month to build a Tou Redir Class Scout Ship, two months to build a Rineunadou Lojmeuean Class
Monitor or a Thuverl Salan Class Destroyer, three months to build a Quiltra Queleual Class Multipurpose
Transport or a Queadol Magdomilla Class Command Ship, and four months to build a Nupetiet Vergnitzs Class
flagship. Reduce production times by half if a facility is at maximum production, but for every month the
facility is at maximum production there is a cumulative 5% chance that the facility will fail and require
1D4 months of repair before restarting operations.
- Spaceship Repair Facilities
Each spaceship construction dock can be used to repair or refit a Zentraedi ship; the docks can also be
used to repair or refit any Tirolian or Border Fleet ship. The length of time it takes to repair a ship
depends on the extent of the damage or disrepair of the ship. The average length of time to repair a ship
can last from a few days to a several weeks.
- Mecha Production Facilities
The station contains extensive mecha construction facilities. There are fourteen mecha factories, three in
each factory pod and two in the main body, and each factory is designed to be generic and can construct
any Zentraedi mecha. At normal production, each factory can produce 1000 Regult Combat Pods, 300 Glaug
Battle Pods, 750 Light Artillery Pods, 750 Heavy Artillery Pods, 500 Recon Scout Pods, 500 Raulonve Fighter
Pods, 500 Nousjadeul-Ger Calvary Power Armor, 200 Queadlunn-Rau Tactical Power Armor, 2000 Hover Platforms,
500 Glaug Booster Units, 800 Light Defense Drones, or 600 Heavy Defense Drones per week. It takes one week
to retool a factory from producing one mecha type to a different mecha type. Double rate of production if a
factory is at maximum production, but for every month the factory is at maximum production there is a
cumulative 5% chance that the factory will fail and require 1D4 weeks of repair before restarting
operations.
- Auxiliary Production Facilities
The station contains extensive auxiliary construction facilities. There are six auxiliary factories, one
in each factory pod and two in the main body, and each factory is designed to be generic and can construct
any auxiliary Zentraedi unit. At normal production, each factory can produce 25 Quel Quallie Cyclops
Reconnaissance Scouts, 75 Liewneuatzs Personnel Shuttles, or 150 Frandlar Tiluvo Transport Pods per week.
It takes one week to retool a factory from producing one unit type to a different unit type. Double rate
of production if a factory is at maximum production, but for every month the factory is at maximum
production there is a cumulative 5% chance that the factory will fail and require 1D4 weeks of repair
before restarting operations.
- Weapon Production Facilities
The station contains extensive weapon construction facilities. There is one factory dedicated to
producing armor and another dedicated to producing infantry weapons. At normal production, the factories
can produce 5000 suits of armor of any type and 5000 infantry weapons of any type per week. Double rate of
production if a factory is at maximum production, but for every month the factory is at maximum
production there is a cumulative 5% chance that the factory will fail and require 1D4 weeks of repair
before restarting operations.
- Missile Production Facilities
The station contains extensive missile construction facilities. There are four missile factories, all in
the main body, and each factory is designed to be generic and can construct any Tirolian missile. At normal
production, each factory can produce 30,000 short range missiles, 20,000 medium range missiles, 5000 long
range missiles, or 1000 cruise missiles per week. It takes one week to retool a factory from producing one
missile type to a different missile type. Double rate of production if a factory is at maximum production,
but for every month the factory is at maximum production there is a cumulative 5% chance that the factory
will fail and require 1D4 weeks of repair before restarting operations. The construction of a missile
includes all guidance systems and warheads, although no more then 25 reflex warheads of any type can be
built per week.
Standard Systems:
- Life Support System
The station has a fully operational life support system that provides fresh atmosphere throughout the ship.
The life support system can sustain a maximum of 120,000 people indefinitely or 300,000 people for a short
period of time in case of an emergency.
- Communication Systems
The station is equipped with four communication systems. The first is a long range laser system with a maximum
range of 100,000 miles (160,934 km), the transmissions travel at the speed of light, but they rely on line
of sight, so it cannot communicate with a ship that is on the other side of a solid object. The second system
is a long range radio system with a maximum range of 60,000 miles (96,561 km), the transmissions travel at the
speed of light, but they are easy to intercept and jam. The third system is a satellite relay system that
allows the ship to boost the range of the other communication systems indefinitely by using satellites or
other ships to relay the transmission. The forth system is a Hyperspace Communications Relay, which travels
at a rate of one light-year every 5 seconds. Hyperspace communications can travel through planets and other
obstructions unhindered, are extremely difficult to intercept, and impossible to jam. The ship's communication
array can communicate with up to 10,000 ships simultaneously.
- Sensor Systems
The station is equipped with four sensor systems. The first is the Electromagnetic Detection Equipment that
detects other sensor systems at twice the maximum range of their transmitter. The second is a powerful array
that uses standard radar waves, which are fairly easy to jam, but it is obvious when the radar array is
being jammed. The sensor can track tiny targets at a range of up to 900,000 miles (1,448,410 km), small
targets at a range of up to 9 million miles (14.5 million km), medium targets at a range of up to 18 million
miles (29 million km), and large targets at a range of up to 27 million miles (43.5 million miles). The
third is a Subspace Mass Sensor that uses gravity-based technology to detect target's at real time speed.
The sensor can track tiny targets at a range of up to 1.5 million miles (2.4 million km), small targets at a
range of up to 15 million miles (24.1 million km), medium targets at a range of up to 30 million miles (48.3
million km), and large targets at a range of up to 45 million miles (72.4 million miles). The forth is a
Hyperspace Mass Sensor that can detect and track ships that are using a Fold Drive. The sensor can track
tiny targets at a range of up to 6 parsecs (19.56 light-years), small targets at a range of up to 30 parsecs
(97.8 light-years), medium targets at a range of up to 60 parsecs (195.6 light-years), and large targets at
a range of up to 90 parsecs (293.4 light-years). See Tirolian
Ship Systems for more details on sensor systems.
- Targeting Computer System
Connecting the station's sensor systems with the weapon systems is the Targeting Computer System. The
system is designed to control all of the weapons currently equipped on the station. This system can track up
to 600 targets simultaneously, providing detailed information about the targets from the ships data files.
All direct fire weapons receive a bonus of +1 to strike and all missile weapons receive a bonus of +1 to
strike. These bonuses are in addition to any previously stated bonuses or penalties.
Combat Summary:
- Combat Actions: 8
- Strike: +1 to strike with direct fire weapons and +1 to strike with missile weapons.
- Dodge: -10 to dodge
- Targeting System: Can track up to 600 targets simultaneously.
- Note: Cannot perform the Evasive Maneuvers spaceship combat maneuver
