Most wizards, sorcerers, and spell casters are skilled in the art of manipulating the energy that infuses all living creatures; they know how to access this energy and how to use it to produce an effect at will. These spell casters are so skilled at manipulating this magical energy, that they can virtually choose to cast any spell they know as long as they have sufficient PPE to cast it. This provides spell casters with incredibly versatility, far more then the wizard and sorcerer counterparts from the traditional d20 system. However, with this optional rule, a spell caster that uses PPE to cast invocation and invocation-like spells, such as elemental magic and necromancy, can focus their energy during a brief period of meditation hours before they actually may need that particular spell. Doing so reduces the amount of PPE required to cast that particular spell and allows the spell to be cast faster. Unfortunately, it prevents the spell caster from using that PPE for any other before casting that spell or releasing the energy harmlessly. Making the spell caster closer to a traditional wizard from the d20 system.
Preparing a spell in advance requires the spell caster to spend 1 hour in meditation, during which time the spell caster selects which spells he wants to prepare. Spell selected in this manner cost only 75% of their normal PPE, rounding all fractions up, and they can be cast with only one melee attack. Normally, casting a spell requires half of the spell caster's attacks for that melee round. For example, if a spell caster prepared a single Armor of Ithan spell in advance, he would spend 8 PPE instead of the normal 10 and he could cast the spell with one melee attack. Prepared spells last until cast or until discharged harmlessly by the spell caster, whichever comes first. However, until the spell has been cast or discharged the spell caster cannot regain the PPE used to prepare that spell. So using the above example, no matter how fast the spell caster regains PPE, that 8 PPE used to prepare the Armor of Ithan spell will not be restored until the spell is cast or discharged. While the energy is still contained within the spell caster it is locked away in a safe place, meaning that while it can be detected, it cannot be drained by means that normally drain PPE energy. In addition, PPE batteries or outside sources of PPE cannot be used to prepare spells.
Discharging a spell takes only a single melee action and the spell caster can choose which spells to discharge harmlessly, he or she could discharge one prepared spell, all prepared spells, or anything in between. Only spells from level 8 or lower can be prepared and even then no rituals or spells that require more then the normal amount of time can be prepared.
