For many centuries there have been extraordinary individuals in the world, blessed or cursed with powers beyond normal beings. Heroes, generals, kings, murderers, and villains, they have had many roles throughout history. Deep within the Roman Catholic church, there was an order of monks that had similar powers. While the church was busy branding most with extraordinary powers as in league with the devil, they had their own secret order with special powers. These men, as woman were not allowed, were a carefully guarded secret and were utterly devoted to God. Some Popes used these to increase their worldly power, while other Popes used them to hunt down and destroy others with special powers, but all Popes recognized the importance and power of these men.
Each henchman's appearance is determined by the Pack Master as he gains a level of experience as long as the appearance is within the parameters set by that type of henchman. However, once chosen, the appearance of each henchman cannot be changed. Most Pack Masters choose to have their henchmen appear nearly identical, with only small facial feature differences to help to tell them apart. However, even while each henchman may look identical to the others and has identical stats, they are individual beings so a Pack Master may develop a favorite and forensic evidence can distinguish between different henchmen.
Henchmen are completely loyal to the Pack Master and will follow his orders without hesitation. A henchmen's alignment matches the Pack Master's, which reflects on how they operate. For example, if a henchmen of a good Pack Master is told to remove the threat of a guard, they will consider using non-lethal force, but a henchmen of an evil Pack Master will simply kill the guard with considering alternatives. Henchmen will always violate their alignments to fulfill the orders of the Pack Master. At first level, unless otherwise stated, henchmen only understand verbal orders, but they can speak and understand any language spoken by the Pack Master. Unless ordered not to or it is not relevant to the current task, henchmen will communicate with each other to coordinate their activities and to share relevant information. For example, if one henchmen is sent to peek around a corner, unless ordered to be quiet or specifically not to, the henchmen will inform the Pack Master and the other henchmen what it saw around the corner.
At levels 8 and 12, when the Pack Master picks a medium and a major ability, the Pack Master can change a lower level ability for the other ability of the same category. For example, upon reaching level 12, a Pack Master could change the minor and medium abilities of his henchmen to the other abilities in the same category. Alternatively, at level 8, in exchange for not receiving any additional henchmen until level 12, including the henchman for level 8, the Pack Master can select the other minor ability in addition to gaining the medium ability. At level 12, in exchange for never receiving additional henchmen, including the henchman for level 9, the Pack Master can select the other medium ability in addition to gaining the major ability.
