Holy Warrior OCC
(Version 1.00 - Last Modified: 03/19/2005)
- Inspired by the Paladin class in Diablo II from Blizzard
Entertainment
Priests of Light and Darkness are the gods mortal representatives, but they focus on magic and prayers,
not combat. For physical strength, the gods have the Holy Warriors. The Holy Warriors and specially
training soldiers dedicated not to a pantheon of gods like the priests, but to a single god that they
serve above all others. The title of a Holy Warrior reflects the god they serve, such as the Holy
Warriors of Ra, and they serve their chosen god faithfully and for life. If a Holy Warrior's faith
ever fails or wavers, they lose all of the abilities granted by their god.
The purpose of a Holy Warrior is simple, they lie to slay the enemies of their god, be they undead
creatures, demons, orcs, or Humans. Often solitary adventurers, Holy Warriors have been known to
associate themselves with likeminded travelers, but they only gather with other Holy Warriors to
destroy an especially powerful and dangerous enemy. In some cases, such as the battle against the
Old Ones, entire armies of Holy Warriors have gathered at the behest of their gods.
Power combatants, the Holy Warriors gain an edge in combat through their Holy Combat Abilities,
which are similar to spells and require PPE, but are faster to cast. However, the Holy Warrior
only knows a small number of combat abilities and they are limited in focus. Aside from the
combat abilities, the Holy Warrior is little different then a normal soldier except when fighting
the sworn enemies of his god, when he is seemly possessed by a fighting spirit that increases his
accuracy and strength, but only against the sworn enemies of his god.
O.C.C. Abilities:
- Holy Combat Abilities:
The Paladin can choose a limited number of combat abilities that allow them to channel their
god's energy to produce a beneficial result. At first level, the warrior can select a combat
ability from the following list: Sacrifice or Smite. At third level, the warrior can select
an additional combat ability from the list given above or from the following list: Holy Bolt.
At fifth level, the warrior can select an additional combat ability from the lists given
above or from the following list: Zeal or Charge. At seventh level, the warrior can select an
additional combat ability from the lists given above or from the following list: Vengence. At
tenth level, the warrior can select an additional combat ability from the lists given above
or from the following list: Blessed Hammer. At twelfth level, the warrior can select an
additional combat ability from the lists given above or from the following list: Holy Shield.
At fifteenth level, the warrior can select an additional combat ability from the lists given
above or from the following list: Fist of the Heavens. See Holy
Warrior Combat Abilities for more details on these powers.
- Enemy Vengeance
Although the Holy Warrior lives to serve his patron god, one of the main purposes of a Holy
Warrior is to hunt down and kill the enemies of his god. However, these enemies cannot be
obstacles in the way of the god, or simply people the god does not like, they must be true
enemies, the most hated enemies in the entire megaverse. For example, all gods of light treat
undead creatures, demons, and deevils as true enemies, while all gods of evil treat spirits
of light and angels as true enemies. Some gods may have additional true enemies beyond those
listed above, such as a Wolfen god that has sworn vengeance against orcs, for example. When
engaged in combat against a sworn enemy of his god, a Holy Warrior receives a bonus of +2 to
strike, +1 to parry, +1 to dodge, and +2 to damage. The Holy Warrior gains an additional +1
to strike at levels 5, 10, and 15, +1 to parry and dodge at levels 7 and 14, and +1 to damage
at levels 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15.
- Penance and Sacrifice
Same as a Priest of Light or Priest of Darkness on pages 67 and 70 respectively, depending on
the alignment of the Holy Warrior's god.
- Allegiance to a God
Same as a Priest of Light or Priest of Darkness on pages 64 and 70 respectively, depending on
the alignment of the Holy Warior's god, except that a Holy Warrior is dedicated to a single god,
he cannot select a Pantheon to worship, although he may still pray to other gods in the same
pantheon as his chosen god, they are not the source of his power and their enemies are not his
enemies.
- Holy Warriors & Armor
Although any type of armor may be used, Holy Warriors usually lean strongly toward heavy
armor. This is because their profession is dangerous, requires little need for stealth, and
calls for maximum physical protection. Holy Warriors suffers the usual penalties for wearing
armor: -5% to prowl, swim, and climb in light armor, -10% to prowl, swim, or climb in chain
or scale mail and half suits, and -15% to prowl and -20% to climb / scale walls or swim in
full splint or plate armor. Wearing armor has no effect on the Holy Warrior's Combat
Abilities.
- Permanent P.P.E. Base
The holy warrior begins with a low amount of PPE compared to a real spellcaster. Holy Warriors
receive 6D6 PPE plus their PE attribute x2 at first level and an additional +2D6 per level of
experience. A Holy Warrior can also draw additional energy from ley lines and other sources of
mystic energy.
