Amazon Warrior OCC
(Version 1.00 - Last Modified: 12/09/2004)
- Inspired by the Amazon class in Diablo II from Blizzard
Entertainment
The Yin-Sloth jungle is one of the most deadly places in the world. With powerful monsters, savage demons,
inhospitable terrain, the place can and often is a death trap for the unprepared and foolhardy. However,
there are some groups of people that eek out a living in the jungles. One of these groups are the Amazons.
A matriarchal society that grew out of a group of Human refugees escaping the Elf-Dwarf wars, the
Amazons have grown into a series of tribes and settlements struggling to survive against the other
inhabitants of the jungles. In the millenia since their arrival, the Amazon tribes have grown to know the
jungle and to live in it, but the tribes owe their survival to the fearless Amazon Warriors. Trained in
mystical arts, the Amazon Warriors are more then simple soldiers, more then simple longbowmen, they are
capable of killing a man faster and further away then many believe possible.
The Amazon Warriors focus in three different schools of training. The first is dedicated to bows and
crossbows, with their longer range and impressive rate of fire. The second school is dedicated to spears
and javelins, which, while not as long ranged as bows or crossbows, inflict more damage and can be reused
more easily. The third school is dedicated to mystical skills that enhance the Amazon Warrior in many
different ways and bring her closer to the gods that make up the Amazon tribes' pantheon.
The Amazon's are harsh warriors, reflecting the harsh kill or be killed reality of the jungle in which
they live. While they have a strong support structure within the tribes and settlements, they are very
weary of outsiders and have little tolerance for people trespassing on their territory, unintentional
or not. While there has been almost no contact with outside groups, soldiers from the Western Empire
have begun to hear stories of these warrior women and their mystical powers. The leaders of the Western
Empire believe that these stores are simply faerie tales, they have increased the frequency and depth of
their scouting missions and it is only a matter of time before the two groups collide. Unfortunately for
the Amazon Warriors, the Western Empire would have little respect for their way of life and would try to
capture the women to put them on display and to fight in arenas, while the warrior women would reject
the male dominated and decadent society that is the Western Empire.
O.C.C. Abilities:
- Area of Specialization
An amazon begins at zero level in each of the areas of specialization, and at each level of
experience, including the first level, the amazon can improve his level in two of the areas
by one. This means that it is impossible for an amazon to have 15th level of
experience in all three categories. Amazons use their level in an area of specialization as
their level of experience for abilities and spells granted by that area of specialization. For
example, a fifteenth level Amazon that has six levels in Bow and Crossbow Skills, uses those
abilities as a sixth level character.
- Mystical Combat Skills:
The Mystical Combat Skills are generic and affect how the Amazon behaves in combat without
being specific to a certain weapon, unlike the other areas of specialization. One of the
most powerful abilities of an Amazon, her ability to summon a powerful fighting spirit, is
available only through these combat skills. At first level, the amazon can select a combat
skill from the following list: Critical Strike, Dodge, or Inner Sight. At third level, the
amazon can select an additional combat skill from the list given above or from the following
list: Avoid, Slow Missiles, or Penetrate. At fifth level, the amazon can select an
additional combat skill from the lists given above or from the following list: Create Decoy,
Evade, or Pierce. At eighth level, the amazon can select an additional combat skill from the
lists given above or from the following list: Summon Valkyrie. At eleventh level, the amazon
can select an additional combat skill from the lists given above. At thirteenth level, the
amazon can select an additional combat skill from the lists given above. At fifteenth level,
the amazon can select an additional combat skill from the lists given above. See
Amazon Warrior Combat Skills for more details on the powers
of this area of specialization.
- Javelin and Spear Skills:
The Javelin and Spear Skills specialization, as its name suggests, focuses on skills that
can be used with a javelin or a spear. While an Amazon is not prevented from using other
types of weapons, after a number of levels are chosen in the specialization, she will likely
use few other weapons. At first level, the amazon can select a combat skill from the
following list: Jab, Poison Javelin, or Power Strike. At third level, the amazon can select
an additional combat skill from the list given above or from the following list: Impale. At
fifth level, the amazon can select an additional combat skill from the lists given above or
from the following list: Lightning Bolt. At eighth level, the amazon can select an additional
combat skill from the lists given above or from the following list: Charged Strike or Plague
Javelin. At eleventh level, the amazon can select an additional combat skill from the lists
given above or from the following list: Fend or Lightning Strike. At thirteenth level, the
amazon can select an additional combat skill from the lists given above or from the following
list: Lightning Fury. At fifteenth level, the amazon can select an additional combat skill
from the lists given above. See Amazon Warrior Combat Skills
for more details on the powers of this area of specialization.
- Bow and Crossbow Skills:
The Bow and Crossbow Skills specialization, as its name suggests, focuses on skills that
can be used with a bows and crossbows. Typically more powerful then the Javelin and Spear
specialization, the Amazon Warriors have a long tradition with the bow and the introduction
of the crossbow in the last century, has provided the Amazons with another powerful weapon.
At first level, the amazon can select a combat skill from the following list: Fire Arrow or
Magic Arrow. At third level, the amazon can select an additional combat skill from the list
given above or from the following list: Cold Arrow or Split Shot. At fifth level, the amazon
can select an additional combat skill from the lists given above or from the following list:
Exploding Arrow. At eighth level, the amazon can select an additional combat skill from the
lists given above or from the following list: Guided Arrow or Ice Arrow. At eleventh level,
the amazon can select an additional combat skill from the lists given above or from the
following list: Immolation Arrow or Multiple Shot. At thirteenth level, the amazon can select
an additional combat skill from the lists given above or from the following list: Freezing
Arrow. At fifteenth level, the amazon can select an additional combat skill from the lists
given above. See Amazon Warrior Combat Skills for more details
on the powers of this area of specialization.
- Dodge & Parry Arrows
The amazon can try to dodge or parry attacks from bows, crossbows, thrown spears, thrown javelins,
and similar thrown projectiles. Any such attempt is performed with a penalty of -3; normally a
penalty of -10 is incurred when trying to parry or dodge such a projectile.
- Amazons & Armor
Most Amazons prefer to wear armor that allows them to remain mobile, so they usually limit themselves
to light armor or half suits of heavy armor. The amazon suffers the usual penalties for wearing
armor: -5% to prowl, swim, and climb in light armor, -10% to prowl, swim, or climb in chain or scale
mail and half suits, and -15% to prowl and -20% to climb / scale walls or swim in full splint or
plate armor. Wearing armor has no effect on the amazon's combat skills.
- Permanent P.P.E. Base
The amazon warrior begins with a low amount of PPE compared to a real spellcaster. Amazon warriors
receive 4D6 PPE plus their PE attribute x2 at first level and an additional +2D4 per level of
experience. Due to how an amazon understands PPE and magic, they cannot draw PPE out of ley lines
as a normal spellcaster can, but she can still draw PPE from creatures and PPE batteries normally.
- Bonuses
Amzon Warriors receive +1D6 to PP attribute, +1 to PE, +1D4 to Spd, +2D6 to S.D.C., +3 to save vs.
all types of toxins, +2 to save vs. disease, and +1 to save vs. horror factor at 1, 3, 6, 9, 12,
and 15.
