Joining the Rutland Fire Department as an On-Call Volunteer Firefighter or EMT is an excellent way to serve your community. The principal thing that you need is the desire to participate and help. The job can be demanding at times, but the self-satisfaction gained and the friendships made more than compensate for your efforts. You must also remember that the fire department can always use more manpower. At any given accident or fire scene, there are a multitude of tasks and objectives to be completed. An extra person at the scene, whether that person is holding a hose line or just a flashlight, can make a big difference in the outcome. Please do not hesitate to contact Chief Ruchala in order to discuss the possibility of joining the Rutland Fire Department. (Chief Ruchala can be contacted by phone at 508-886-4107, by email at firechief@townofrutland.org, by using the Contact Form to the right, or in person at the Rutland Fire Station.)
