dear drcnet
an open letter in response to drcnets coverage of the brazilian decriminalization
victory
brazilian victory overshadowed by
bickering activistswhy in
the world would you link an amazing victory in brazil with paragraph after
paragraph of whining and bickering among activists and the spreading of false
rumors about fabio mesquita? in the first place, they are two separate stories.
the only thing that they really have in common is that they involve the legality
of drugs, and they are both concerning events in brazil. in the same issue you
have no less than six stories from the united states. no bundling there. each
story gets its own page and each story gets its own headline. news from brazil,
however, the best news i've heard in a long time, has to get bundled up with the
amazing story of activists fighting amongst
themselves.we should be jumping up and
down going woo hoo! over this brazilian news. the drug reform movement is
global, and any victory that anyone achieves anywhere in the world is a victory
for everyone of us. and here you are giving a headline to bickering activists!
you should be ashamed of yourselves. are you jealous of that brazilian victory,
so you feel the need to fill over half of the stories with false statements and
anti-brazil sentiments? imagine if we had just achieved a similar victory here
in the states, we're on our way to some very good stuff, and the reporter who
writes the story turns it in bundled up with six or seven statements of
disgruntled drug reform veterans, and if the only good quote you could get was
"it doesn't go far enough." haven't you ever heard of celebrating a victory? do
we have nothing to cheer for until we've won the war and we all get along? oh
great. ask rodney king how long that's gonna
take.so. i'm one of the folks that
sends you guys money. an attitude like you displayed in the brazil article
doesn't encourage me to start reaching for my wallet...i want to know that you
enjoy the thrill of victory and celebrate each one fully before moving on to the
next challenge. and that you don't condone the repetition of stupid and
unfounded claims of corruption about our fellow reformers until you've
discovered the veracity of the reports. i really don't have the time or the
money for that sort of bullshit.peace
