addicted to shakti
the shakti pusher comes to town, gives a little
taste, and leaves you on your own (i'll get by with a little help from my
friends).

quebecjohn began this 4th
(for us) class of the weekend by talking about the nadiis, describing their
basic setting in the body and comparing them to vibrating strings on a musical
instrument. the familiar seeming duality of stability and freedom are needed to
open the nadiis, he said, and quality of feeling : deep desire and will are
necessary to move prana, the energy which flows through the nadiis. prana has
quasi-electrical properties according to john, so we need to create a system
that can contain this energy, this prana. john then called himself the shakti
pusher, giving a little taste and then leaving town...addicted to
shakti.john then went on to
talk a bit about pranayama, offering some possibilities for definition. yama,
besides being the god of death, can also be defined as a limit or a boundary,
while ayama can be defined as to expand, so pranayama can be control of the
breath, as classically defined, or it can be a discovery of the limits or
boundaries of the breath, or an expansion of the breath. at any rate, according
to john, the breath is a guest: “i am not ultimately in charge
here.”from this base
point we jumped right into it...handstand from uttanasana, vasistasana to
urdvadanurasana, bakasana to handstand, urdva dhanurasana to
headstand...”advanced poses open the nadiis”. we finished out
chanting govinda radhe shyam with the cosmic canadian all star band and went out
to lunch, eager for the next two hour class, sad that it was to be the
last.
