well he did have a smidge of banana two weeks ago...but this was more than a smidge and it's now two nights in a row!

ran says it helps him sleep better, but makes his poopies stinky...oh well...more impetus to get on it with the ec.

where does the time go?

seriously!

well it has been some time since i've been here...sorry to any and all who have missed the stories and pixies of little rowan pan the forest man. what can i say in the limited amount of time i can stay awake tonight? he's giggling now...and teething as well...loving to chew on my finger...and so open bright and aware...

being away from him for the next five days...wow...that's like a lifetime...i just hope to be a better papa when i get back...

lazy days

for some people some times

it's been a bit of a relief that i even have the time to be typing these words. taking on 20 hours of new work the same week you have a baby is not exceptionally bright. live and learn. lack of sleep from two different angles. but lots of pixies that you get to see almost as soon as i get to. and might not see for a long time to go.

bilirubin blues

get the yellow out!

so after 43 hours in the hospital, rowan under the photolights for 23 hours...the bilirubin dropped from 19.7 to 12.4 and we are now safely esconsed in our warm house on the top of the windy hill with the electricity playing peek a boo and rowan pan spider james faris sleeping peacefully to the wine and hum of a medela lactina breast pump.

the breast pump and the glow worm

high bilirubin count sends us to children's hospital for a bit of light therapy

after an intense weekend of lactation red-alerts, we finally got ran expressing milk and rowan latching on, thanks to the generous help of gail levy, a nurse and lactation consultant with jewish family and children's service ...much celebration and relief followed by a father and son visit to rowan's pediatrician, janet levatin , while ran got some much needed rest...dr. janet was happy with everything but his skin color...he was starting to look like he was living on a steady diet of carrots...so spider gave up a bit of blood and we went home to mom...and then at 6:30...in the middle of a deep deep slumber...dr. levatin called and gave us the word...19.7 bilirubin...too close for comfort...and so here we are!
