An anonymous contributor told us of a Dalhousie University student named
Candy Baggs. A correspondent named "Claudia" confirms this, and adds that
she attended Goose High School, in Goose Bay, Labrador, with Candy (her true
first name). Class of '93.

C Christmas, Murray

Born Murray Trondson in Flin Flon, Manitoba, Murray Christmas of
Fort St. John, British Columbia, changed his name in 1995, making him

Curiel, ESPN

Jason Curiel lives in Corpus Christi, Tex., and he loves to watch sports
on TV, on the U.S. cable outlet ESPN. So one day, when his wife, Kathy,
was about six months pregnant and Jason was doing the couch-potato routine
watching basket-ball, his sister Erica suggested that they call the baby
ESPN. And they did. ESPN (Es'-pen) Curiel is now about 7 months old.
That's his legal official name. The couple's two other kids are Roxanne and
Raelyn. "My sister was just joking (about ESPN as a name)," Jason recalls,
"but I brought it up to my wife. I kind of giggled when I said it, but then she

Grubb, Molly

Molly Grubb was the winner of a Miss Texas pageant, according to an anonymous
contributor.  She goes on to say "I attended college with a student whose name was
Letta Fuchs, even though her last name is pronounced Fox, none of the professors
got it right the first time and sometimes not even the second.  There was actually a
young man that I went to junior high school with whose name was Fred Fucker, at
least that was the name on the absentee slip as the principal read it.  I dated a guy
named Horace Dicks who named his first born son Henri (prononuced ON-RI) Dicks,
I never understood why and he could not even give me a good excuse."

H Hamburger, Patricia

In the Daily File of official correspondence at work, DC noticed
a letter to Ms. Patricia Hamburger, He pause, always on the lookout
for aptonym candidates, but moved on.  Later, he wondered if
anyone ever called her "Hamburger Patty."

Hills, Beverley

CE writes: "Beverley Hills was a student in my 4th grade class, 1954,
Prospect School in Mansfield, Ohio."

K Kunt, Mustapha

Dozing in his hotel room one night, DC was flipping through the TV
channels, and stopped to watch Question Period in the Canadian
House of Commons. One of the speakers was Inky Mark, Member of
Parliament for Dauphin and member of the Alliance Party.
Almost—but not quite—an aptonym.

Monster, Freek

In Dutch, the name "Monster" apparently does not have the same connotation
it does in English, and the name Frederick is often shortened to "Freek".  AM2
was introduced to Freek Monster, who has a business card with this name.

N Nickle, Triple

The guest of honour at the 2001 General Assembly of the Royal Astronomical
Society of Canada was Triple Nickle, a Texan who trains shuttle astronauts to
land their spaceplane. This was all written up in the September/October 2001
issue of SkyNews, a Canadian astronomy magazine that DC receives.

S Slob, Arie
