Christopher Y. Chang, MD — Read Bio / Resume

Dr. Chang is a laryngology and voice disorders fellowship-trained otolaryngologist. He personally performs a complete history and physical examination including video-stroboscopy. He is also the founder of the Virginia Voice and Speech Center and the Voice Team depicted here.

Diagnosis of a patient's hoarseness may take up to two separate visits. The first visit covers the basic history and physical examination which includes a fiberoptic laryngoscopy. At that point, a decision will be made whether to proceed with a stroboscopy examination. A stroboscopy examination is a comprehensive voice evaluation ~30 minutes in length of a patient's voice including a vocal cabability battery testing and a fiberoptic/rigid stroboscopic analysis of the voicebox and attendant vocal cord motion. This examination is digitally recorded and copies can be made for the patient. Decision on the kind of treatment will be made at that time and may require working with other members of the Voice Team. If you are self-pay, click here.

He has office hours on all days of the week and operates only on Tuesdays. He also performs Botox injections for patients with spasmodic dysphonia every Friday afternoon.

Melissa Mainville, MS, CCC/SLP — Speech & Voice Therapist

Fauquier Hospital's adult speech and voice therapist with additional certification in the Lee Silverman Voice Therapy for Parkinson's Disease. Melissa has a background in speech pathology but has a special interest and training in the vocal sciences and rehabilitation for the injured voice. She sees patients daily. Ceres Artico, PhD, LPC, LMFT — Psychological Voice Therapist

Dr. Artico has over 13 years experience in the field of psychology and is familiar with how environmental stressors contribute to vocal quality problems. She is also certified in EMDR for performance anxiety and has advanced training in mediation, sandtray therapy, and clinical supervision. Her other areas of expertise include the treatment of trauma, depression, anxiety, and relational difficulties. In addition to serving as director of Gainesville Family Counseling and providing services in the Haymarket/Gainesville area, Dr. Artico also keeps office hours in Vienna, Virginia. Carmen Gonzalez, PhD — Psychological Voice Therapist

Dr. Gonzalez is a psychologist familiar with how environmental stressors contribute to vocal quality problems. She is experienced in the use of hypnosis and biofeedback to enable patients with stress-induced vocal problems learn to manage and ultimately control their neck and voicebox muscles to allow for a clear voice regardless of the environmental situation.
