HORSE HOCKEY

when a great game gets even greater.

I love hockey. I really love playoff hockey. I really, really love sudden death overtime playoff hockey. I love it so much, in fact -- there's almost certainly a long-form post on this subject coming soon -- that until this afternoon, I would not have thought it possible to love it any more than I already do. But then, about halfway through the second overtime of today's epic Rangers-Sabres tilt, when play-by-play man Mike Emrick announced that the game had gone so long that NBC would not have time to air Barbaro: A Nation's Horse, I realized that this just might be the greatest and most merciful sudden death overtime playoff hockey game ever played.

If the length of the game could have somehow prevented NBC from ever airing that special, it might have been the single greatest sporting event in the history of television.
