...a tip of the dock and a spin of the clickwheel to the fine folks at Apple, who announced today that the brilliant and beautiful, elegant and incomparable iTunes Music Store sold its 200 Millionth song this week. It took them a little over 14 months to sell their first 100 Million, and a little over 5 months to sell the second hundred million. In case you were wondering -- and I know that some of you were -- my purchases have contributed 355 downloads to the current total. (Now playing: #351, Green Day's "Shoplifter.") With the consistently exponential growth rate they've enjoyed since launching the store, and with all the iPods and iTunes Gift Cards out there waiting to be unwrapped at the end of the month, I suspect it will be an even quicker ride to third -- and fourth, and fifth, and... -- 100 Million. Not bad for the creation of an entirely new market that many silly, shortsighted pundits declared was doomed to fail. Think different, indeed. Posted: Thu - December 16, 2004 at 06:58 PM |
