O:30

let's hear it for the audacity of creativity.

The new, MoveOn.org-sponsored Obama in 30 Seconds ad contest is a pretty cool idea for all sorts of reasons -- not the least of which is how piss-poor Obama's official ads are; his campaign slogan ought to be A New Kind of Politics, But the Same Shitty Kind of Commercials -- and should, if the fervor surrounding his campaign is any indication, produce a whole host of creative, inspired, wildly adrenalized submissions.

I'm going to go out on a (not very long) limb here and suggest that the winner of this contest will be the best thirty-second political ad you'll see all year. It'll be interesting. Inspiring. Unconventional. It may even be bold and provocative. It may just be the kind of break-the-mold, blow-up-the-box advertisement you see everywhere in the world but political advertising. People -- maybe even Obama detractors -- will love it.

But then the committees and the consultants will return. And you'll never see anything like it again.
