THE BRAVERY OF BEING OUT OF RANGE

and a change on the terrorist leaderboard.

There’s no mention of it tonight on the CNN home page. There is, however, a link to a video story about Fears of nuclear terrorism growing.

There’s no mention of it on the MSNBC home page. Only the news that the Bush family exchanges Christmas presents.

There’s certainly no mention of it on the Fox News home page. They're too busy celebrating that Court Orders Saddam to be Hanged Within 30 Days.

There’s no mention of it at ABCNews.com. There is, however, advice on New Ways to Find the Fountain of Youth.

At Canada.com, you can find the story. And it is this:

Three U.S. soldiers died in Iraq yesterday. Their deaths, confirmed by the Department of Defense and added to the rest of the fatalities since March 2003, pushed the American military death toll for the War in Iraq to 2,975. Which is two more than the U.S. death toll for the attacks of September 11th, 2001.

Three more soldiers died today. More will surely die tomorrow.

And so this seems like a fine time to take a few days off. To spend some quality holiday time of peace and love with my family. And to be thankful for the many blessings in my life. Blessings that, thanks to these lost, last three years, almost 3,000 American families now sadly lack.

I’ll be back on Saturday. But until then, I’ll leave you with something to look at, to think about, to let sink in as far and ferociously as it must to make you wonder what the hell we're doing and why. Here, in all its tragic glory, is the current, let’s-kill-lots-of-innocent-Americans-for-no-reason Terror Bowl Scoreboard:

GEORGE W. BUSH 2,978
OSAMA BIN LADEN 2,974

This must be what he meant when he said he wouldn't let the terrorists win.
