edinburghpaths.info

This site has information about a few of the many walking and cycling routes in Edinburgh.

edinburghpaths.info was created in 2002 to bring together the Exploring Edinburgh articles produced for City of Edinburgh Council's Outlook newspaper by Chris Hill and Heather Christie.

This site will never be comprehensive, (one of the joys of walking and cycling is that there are many different ways of getting from A to B), but it should help you to explore Edinburgh on foot or by bike.

Some people are fascinated by maps. A collection of old maps of the Edinburgh area are available on line on the National Library of Scotland site. For cyclists it's impossible to beat the Spokes maps on sale in book and bike shops and on line. (More about maps here.)

In December 2006 Google upgraded the satellite image used in Google Earth and Google Maps. It is now easy (and fairly quick) to map routes (using mapmyrun.com). A selection is available here on the online routes page and will be graduallly added to.

A recent addition is a five mile circular route visiting the Old and Town and passing many galleries, museums and cafes.

If you have other route suggestions (especially ones using the Map My Run web site) please send to myroute@edinburghpaths.info

City of Edinburgh Council is currently involved in identifying paths which will form part of a Core Paths Network.
