Craigmillarcycles is an idea and a list of possibilities

The possibilities are are ENDLESS.

The aim of Craigmillarcycles is to get more people cycling more often.

Craigmillar is fairly flat, has low car ownership and is being dramatically re-developed - with the importance of walking and cycling being officially recognised.

Craigmillarcycles will encourage people to cycle by doing simple things such as -

Arrange basic maintenance classes (including how to fix a puncture).

Arrange 'Dr. Bike sessions' where bikes are safety checked.

Organise rides 'for beginners' using mainly off-road routes such as the Innocent.

Encourage organisations to have a 'Workshop in a Cupboard'. This would be a basic maintenance kit including a workstand, trackpump with spanners and special bike tools.

Organise Bicycle Cascades where children can swap bikes they have grown out of for a bigger one (which has been safety checked).

Encourage the Council and developers to take the idea of encouraging walking and cycling SERIOUSLY when it comes to designing and building the new infrastructure for the redevelopment of area.

Investigate the need for a community based bicycle workshop or bicycle shop. This could be in an existing building or a new one.

Make stuff - maybe like these!!

Train people for actual jobs or just to give them skills they can use themselves or teach others.

Suggest possibilities such as a bicycle delivery service, cycle hire for use in the new Craigmillar Park and also by local people who want to learn to cycle but don't have bicycles.

Consider making the bings in the area more accessible to people wanting to practice their mountain bike skills.

Arrange for Cycle Training for individuals, groups or schools.

Promote the idea of cycling to people living or working in Craigmillar.

Upgrade BMX track near the Jack Kane Centre.

Encourage building of Velodrome in Hunter's Park (if that is still a possibility!)

Help with funding applications to make some of these things happen.

Work with any person, group, organisation, business etc. who wants help, advice or encouragement to cycle (more often).

Encourage any person, group, organisation, business etc. to help with this.
