This is Sheila Urbanoski, posing in the hall at SAW with Sharleen Piotto in the background. If you don't know who Sheila is you're obliged to find out more at shera.org. Sharleen is the newest member of the SAW Video team and I had the honour of teaching her when she was in Fredericton. The world seems to keep getting smaller and smaller...
Sheila is a video and net artist and she gave a workshop called "Getting Art on the Web" where she showed some examples of video on the Web and had a great discussion of "streaming" and what it means. In an indirect way Sheila has changed the way that I work with video, film and new media. When I would have a video camera in my hand before I would shoot things in a cinematic style. Sheila opened my eyes to a different way of shooting and using the medium of video and the Web. Sheila was also on the board of the IFVA when I was and it was nice to be able to share my lack of official responsibility with her.
She's one of my favourite people and it's too bad that she lives in London (England) as I only get to hang out with her in person about once every two years or so, which is too long.
