Christmas 1998
Dear Friends,
It
hardly seems possible that eighty eight years have come and gone
since I first entered this world, and , needless to say, I am most
grateful. Both Good Luck and Dame Fortune have smiled down on me, and
upon my family as well. All four of my children are alive and well
and all my grandchildren are doing well with their pursuits at
school. Yes, the roll of the dice has favored me!
Hopefully
you, my friends, are faring as well, though I know that tragedy has
entered some of your lives. Despite this, you are all aware of the
resilience of the Human Spirit and that it rebounds after adversity.
So, we'll keep on smiling even though it hurts.
As
I assess my state today I am also well aware that many of my friends
and peers are no longer around and that the end of the road may not
be too far away. However, I can take some solace in knowing that one
is living in probably the most important and exciting time in human
history. The rate of new discoveries and the rapid spread of new
ideas is mind boggling and the information highway enables us to live
two or three lives at once, something our forefathers never imagined
possible. Yes the world may be more dangerous today than ever before
but it is also more interesting and challenging . My father insisted
that a man would never walk on the moon and, now, I would not set any
limits on Man's aspirations and achievements.
Pat
and I keep ourselves busy with endless meetings and social activities
and boredom is not a problem. In fact, there is not enough hours in
the day to get our jobs done. Though we go south for the winter we
are almost as busy there as at home in Manchester. Keeping our minds
and bodies active is probably a factor in our longevity.
Many
of my peers have not explored the world of cybernetics, and , while
one can get along very well without it, there is such excitement and
pleasure to be found there.! Presently, I belong to four computer
clubs and have enlarged my circle of acquaintances many fold.My new
friends come from all walks of life with varying backgrounds and
makes my life more interesting. User groups are like AA in that they
are addicts and always helping their less informed friends. Meet me

address: cejjrmd@tiac.net.
As
I said last year my real cause is World Federalism and, hopefully,
some day we can live in The United States of the World, built upon
the same federalists principles as our own wonderful USA. There is no
peace without justice, No justice without law, and no law without
government. These are incontrovertible!. Thus, all that is needed is
to accept the idea of an international authority, one based on the
Force of Law and not the Law of Force. Einstein said the atomic bomb
changed everything in the world except the mind of Man, and therein
lies our problem.
Lastly
it is Pat's and my wish that this Xmas letter finds you contented
with your lot and looking forward to each sunrise as though your
glass were half full and not half empty.
