Insight Reflector

Definition

An Insight Reflector is designed to promote open reflection and encourage creative thinking. It is especially appropriate for English, Social Studies, and Ethical approaches to Science and Technology classes.

Curricular Goal

  • When creative thinking is important
  • To help students view subject matter through new perspectives
  • To engage students’ emotions and minds
  • When reflective writing is a course objective
Steps for Creating
  • Find site that will create positive dissonance
  • Prompt students to
    • Look at topic in different ways
    • Mull things over
Examples
  • The Otherness of the Past encourages students to reflect on influential people in California’s History and how what they did influenced what is happening in the state today.
