NOTICE ON USE OF VESTS
DURING DATA COLLECTION

The management of California's Great America, at the direction Cedar Fair, their parent company, has banned the use of DataVests and Xplorer Vests during data collection at Great America effective 2009.

While the reasoning behind this decision is not fully understood by the Teacher Steering Committee, we recognize that California's Great America is the only Cedar Fair park that permits electronic data collection at all. For that we are grateful and the Electronic Data Center will operate as it has the past 13 years in the Gazebo near Vortex.

How can students carry electronic accelerometers on rides?

   A) The unit could be carried in a "fanny pack" around the student's waist.

   B) The unit could be carried by hand if it is securely tethered to the student.

   C) The unit could be carried in a soft case that is carried on the ride. The case would need to be tethered to the student.

   D) The unit could be strapped to the student's thigh.

We will be experimenting to see which of these techniques will be most effective both for securing the equipment safely and for gathering quality data during the 2009 P/S/M Days. If there are clearly best ways of carrying the accelerometer units, we will include this information on the website and on the 2010 CD.
