Objective:Fashion a "boat" out of aluminum foil that will float the most pennies without sinking.Materials:
Each team will be furnished with one piece of Al foil, approximately 10 cm x 10 cm. Pennies, rulers, tubs with water, towels and paper towels will also be furnished during the contest. No materials may be brought into the park for the contest.Rules:
- Teams of 2-3 students can enter the contest to represent themselves and their school.
- An individual student may only compete on one team.
- Each team may only compete one time. Separate containers of water will be available for teams to test their designs before being judged. However, each team will only receive one piece of foil.
- No items, including adhesives, tape, glue, rubber bands, etc., may be added to the foil boat.
- During the judging, the boat must float with the pennies for 5 seconds in order to count. The largest number of pennies floating at least 5 seconds will count as the team's score.*
- Attempts to circumvent the rules above will result in disqualification of the team.
- Rulings of the judges are final.
Winners:
- All contestants will receive recognition.
- The highest scoring teams will take home additional prizes.
- If enough entrants participate, winners will be determined in the following grade categories:

* In practice, the contestants will add their pennies one at a time, allowing 5 seconds to make sure the boat floats. Once water begins to invade the boat non-stop or it outright sinks, the judge will count the number of pennies and subtract the last one to determine the team's score.
