An operation is an injury, through all layers of tissue, and like any trauma can be assisted in healing by physical treatment. Keeping the body’s fluids moving is the major aim to begin with. Surgery cuts through the transport systems of the blood, lymph, nerves, muscles and tendons. These all need assistance to rejuvenate, massage helps a new system to develop. It helps to open pathways across the scar line preventing bunching of tissue each side. It can take a while to create free movement of fluid, and if it is a long time since the surgery it needs some hard friction to achieve this, but it is possible and very worthwhile.

I have found that physical treatment under these circumstances brings return of movement, also importantly, it reduces pain.

Flushing strokes are the gentlest ones to begin with over the area, but before this it is advantageous to work above and around the site as this keeps the fluids moving and removes waste from the area, speeding up the healing process.

If it is an old site of surgery, then friction is the most important stroke, to break down scar tissue built up over the area.

One session will make a difference, three will get you well on the way to normal movement again. Phone to book on 07017 415310. Feel free to ask questions about treatment before booking.
