SCAR TISSUE

Scar Tissue is the name given to a hardened area, usually a discreet lump at the site of an old injury. The word scar is used in the way that you describe something left after an injury has happened, not necessarily after an operation, although this does of course produce scar tissue.

The lump that you can feel is where there was a bruise or tear in the tissue, the lymph that comes to the area to repair it has slowed down to a standstill and hardened because of lack of activity. The best thing that you dan do to avoid this build up is to rub the area at the time of ,and during the days after, the injury. Applying Arnica tincture prevents it from forming. Applying ice encourages it, though people apply ice to prevent swelling and pain (and to continue their sporting activity) it is not good for the long term healing of the area, as it obviously slows the blood supply down.

The treatment for reducing scar tissue is called friction, a system of rubbing the lump against a nearby bone (usually the one that caused it in the first place!), thus encouraging blood flow and enabling the lymph that has hardened to be broken down and carried away. Then the muscle and tendon can repair and function more normally and without pain.

One session will make a difference, three will get you well on the way to normal movement again. Phone to book on 07017 415310. Feel free to ask questions about treatment before booking.
