Tetsuya is one of Keisuke's (Miaka's brother) good friends, and someone who eventually helps Keisuke in his quest to find out about the origins of the Universe of the Four Gods book and what kind of power it holds. Tetsuya is a stereotypical "cool" guy - he wears sunglasses everywhere, rain or shine, indoors or outdoors, to emphasize his "cool" attitude He's also known to drive a very sleek and nice-looking car that he ends up drving Keisuke around in. However, unlike "cool" guys of his type Tetsuya is not full of himself - in fact he is quite unselfish and willing to help others.
Tetsuya first hears about the book after he pesters Keisuke about it. Keisuke's attempts to hide the magical power of the book are unsuccessful with Tetsuya, who is amazed at the abilities the book has. As his friend Tetsuya pledges to help Keisuke get Miaka and Yui out of the book, and helps Keisuke do things such as research and finding out background about the book. When Keisuke takes a break from reading the book and about Miaka, Tetsuya is the one that takes over for him.
Eventually Tetsuya, along with Keisuke, play their own part in the book's story, and later Tetsuya develops feelings for Yui, as seen by his protectiveness and worried attitude concerning her.
