Hatsui is a member of the Genbu Seven, celestial warriors following Genbu, the tortoise god of the north, and dedicated to protecting the Priestess of Genbu. Together with the other Genbu Seishi, Hatsui protected the Genbu no Miko over 200 years before the Suzaku and Seiryuu no Mikos ever entered the world of the book. By the time the series begins, he/she is long dead as well as his/her other companions.

Hatsui does appear for a short amount of time in the first OAV along with Umiyame. However, the appearance is so short that we don’t learn much about them.
