Einosuke Okuda is the first known person to attempt a translation of the "Universe of the Four Gods" book. He was the one to originally bring the book back from China to Japan in the early 20th century, where he began his work on it. However, his work on the book would prove to be his downfall and one of the tragedies surrounding it.
While Einosuke was translating the book, his daughter, Takiko was sucked into it, much like Miaka and Yui were years later. As Takiko did her work in the other world as the Priestess of Genbu, Einosuke read the book and translated it as it happened. Takiko was eventually able to summon Genbu and make her wishes. Takiko returned home to an overjoyed Einosuke - however, the spirit of Genbu was still within her, threatening to consume her. A helpless Einosuke could only watch as Takiko was nearly devoured by Genbu, and in a final act, killed his daughter and then himself, to prevent the consumption. The whole history behind this was discovered by Keisuke and Tetsuya, as they raced to find out a way to keep Tamahome from disappearing.
