Shunkei is Tamahome's younger sibling and the youngest brother among all the siblings. Shunkei, along with his siblings and father, all love Tamahome and his care for them, as he struggles to earn money for them to get by.
Miaka first encounters Shunkei when she, Tamahome, and the rest of the Suzaku Seven pass through Tamahome's town in their travels. The Sou family immediately takes a liking to Miaka and even senses that they belong together, much to the embarrassment of both Miaka and Tamahome. While they do not appear in the series that often, the Sou family is a reminder of the ties that Tamahome holds to them and how important they are to him.
