Day 11 training

Bodhi was doing real well (fortunately, his basic training commands are very good) and Steve had me put him on a very slack leash and then he approached him in a very aggressive manner and Bodhi went for his leg.

Today we did training with Steve and part of it went well and part of it SUCKED.

The work inside the house isn't going well, but I don't know what I can expect without having done much work. Its hard to make progress without men to practice on. I just don't seem to have many guy friends that Bodhi doesn't already know and like, so its hard to practice with him.

Steve was very impressed with how well Bodhi did outside, but not thrilled with the lack of progress we have made inside. So we have implemented a new tool. A place bed. Bodhi now has this little place bed that he is supposed to go to when people come in.

We introduced the place bed outside (because he's already doing really good outside) and practiced having Bodhi stay on it while Steve marched around him and acted weird. Bodhi was doing real well (fortunately, his basic training commands are very good) and Steve had me put him on a very slack leash and then he approached him in a very aggressive manner and Bodhi went for his leg. I was able to pull him back and all he got was a bit of pant leg, but it was terrible. Steve didn't seem nearly as phased by it.

Then we moved the exercise inside and it was like a whole new world. I looped the leash around the base of the place bed, and reinforced that with a leash going to a closet door so Bodhi couldn't go anywhere far from the bed. I sat on the couch and Steve marched around the apartment like he owned the place. Somtiems Bodhi would bark, but it was so much different.

Now my homework is to teach Bodhi to go to his "base" when someone comes over. Which means, I have to teach him the "base" command and have it work 100% of the time when there are no distractions, then slowly add distractions....

Next training session is Monday Feb 13.
